Polka Dot Birthday

Hi there

I have another birthday card for you today, using a few of my new goodies from the Annual Catalogue plus one of my favourite stamp sets to colour.

The layout is based on this sketch from Seize the Birthday, but I missed deadline to link it up.

I have used the striking black and vanilla polka dot design from the new 'Modern Medley' Designer Series Paper and paired it with Real Red for a bold colour combo.  The poppies have been coloured with Copics in matching colours and the sentiment is from a lovely new Hostess set called 'Express Yourself'.  This is a fabulous set of 12 sentiments that would suit almost all occasions in this lovely script font.

You can select 'Express Yourself' from 'Stampin' Rewards' when your order (before postage) reaches $300.00 or more.  Why not get together with a few friends and have your own online Catalogue party.  Contact me if you would like more information on how you can do this.

This is inside of the card.

Seize the Birthday #9 - Feminine

Hi there

I have a very CAS card for this week's Seize the Birthday #9 challenge which is to use this great sketch from Lesley for a feminine birthday card.

I have stamped part of the lovely 'Pleasant Poppies' background stamp and used my Copics to colour match it with Tangerine Tango.  I love orange poppies as they are so bright and cheery.  I have kept the embellishment to a minimum  and popped up the coloured panel and the sentiment. The pearls have been coloured with a matching Copic.  This has to be one of the few cards I have made recently that doesn't use the Big Shot.  Now that is CAS for me!

As I am running late with this one, I had to photograph it under artificial light so apologies for the lighting. (ETA: Now replaced with a better photo)

Seize the Birthday #8 - Masculine

Hi there

In total contrast to my last girly card, I have a teenage boy card for this week's Seize the Birthday #8 sketch. The Rotary Exchange student we are hosting is having his 17th birthday shortly and he is a keen skateboarder.  I acquired this 'Extreme Skateboard' stamp for the occasion and decided to give it a try with this sketch.  I don't think this stamp ever made it to Australia, but with the Internet you can find just about anything!

For the background behind the skateboarder, I have created a pseudo-grunge look using my acrylic blocks as stamps in the bold colours of Real Red, Not Quite Navy, More Mustard and Gumball Green. The skateboarder image was stamped over the top in Versamark ink and heat embossed in black.  I have learned the hard way with the new ink pads, not to emboss before the ink is thoroughly dry otherwise you emboss a lot more than you intend! The rest is pretty much as you see it. This one got the thumbs-up from the other male in the house, so let's hope the soon to be 17 yo thinks the same!

I received the new 'Tea for Two' DSP late last week, so I decided to use it to make this birthday card for a friend.  It came together very quickly after deciding which papers to use and I had the flower already made.
