My Garden Collage

Today I have something a bit different to share with you - a scrapbook page. I don't scrapbook as much as I would like, but I did enjoy doing this page on my spring garden and it is fitting given that it is/was (depending where you are) World Scrapbooking Day on Friday 4th March. I have lots of travel and cat photos that would benefit from seeing the light of day as well.

I used some free software to create the collage and printed it on my home Canon Pixma printer. This is a great format when you want to display a few related photos on one page and would be perfect for travel photos too. You can get very creative with collages using the software now available on phones and tablets.

I'm a 'pink' person (if you hadn't already noticed, lol) and a lot of the flowers in my garden are pink as well. I chose a black background to make the photos pop and then 2 contrasting colours from the photos - Melon Mambo and Mossy Meadow to create the 2-sided border. It effectively creates a square within the square for my collage photo to sit in. The Botanical Builder framelits are perfect for adding some simple embellishments.

With Mother’s Day less than 2 weeks away, the theme for this month’s Blog Hop is appropriately ‘Women in our Lives’. The first item I have for you is a scrapbook page featuring a photo of my mother taken in the late 1950’s when she was in her twenties. This is one of my favourite photos of her and I love the look of simple elegance captured in black and white. My goal was to create a similar feel on this page, so I will leave you to judge whether that has been achieved.

 

The ribbon tails on the left side of the photo is the handle to pull out the journaling panel. I have typed my text on the computer, printed it onto Whisper White cardstock and then cut it out using the Top Note die and the Big Shot. All the details of the products used are provided below.

The second item I have for you is a Mother’s Day card. You are probably familiar with the Flower Pot card and this is my take on it – the ‘Bowl of Roses’ card! The bowl has been formed from a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock folded in half and then dry embossed. The bowl shape was then cut from the embossed card, with the fold at the bottom. The roses and buds have been stamped in Riding Hood Red and Summer Sun using the ‘A Rose Is A Rose’ 2-step stamp set. The two-toned effect was created by stamping off the first image, then using full colour on the second. The roses have been popped up on the top of the panel that slides into the bowl.  I’ve finished it off with some taffeta ribbon and a sentiment from the new ‘Tiny Tags’ stamp set from the Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue. Here is a view with the rose panel pulled up from the bowl. The card fits into a 15cm square envelope.

"Love" Scrapbook Challenge

I have something different for you today - a scrapbook page. I'm still on trainer wheels when it comes to Scrapbooking. I have a tendency to over-analyse, then procrastinate and then become frustrated (hearing an echo of 'just stick it down'!).  So this year I've decided to push myself to become more comfortable with scrapping by keeping it really simple and going with my instinct to develop a style that I'm comfortable with. 

This page is for the Stamp a Memory Creative Challenge #3 to focus on one word - LOVE. When I saw this I knew I had the perfect photo of our new 'fur kid' (I don't have any of the 2 legged kind!). He is a Snow Spotted Lynx Bengal and has the most gorgeous sky blue eyes. He will develop pale brown spots and stripes as he gets older. We will be able to pick him up when he is 12 weeks old. Here it is, I hope you like it.
