Painted Poppies Card Set - Part 2

Hi there

I'm back to share the second part of my set of cards made with the Painted Poppies Bundle. This bundle comrprises the Painted Poppies stamp set and the coordinating Painted Labels Dies. Both products are carrying over to the new 2020-21 Annual Catalogue that commences on 3 June 2020. However, the Peaceful Poppies Designer Paper is available until 2 June or while stock lasts.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Poppies Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne #paintedpoppies

For this card I have used a white card base and then added a piece of designer paper from the Peaceful Poppies Designer Paper pack to the top section of the card with a strip of the contrasting green stripe as a border. I have cut the swirly circle from the Painted Labels Dies in black as the background for my embellishment. The greeting from the lovely (and retiring) Rare Blessings stamp set was stamped and cropped with a stitched circle die. I finished it with a poppy that was stamped coloured and fussy cut and popped up on the corner of the circle and a sprinkle of Gold Enamel Dots. I think the black circle really makes the card pop.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Poppies Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne #paintedpoppies

For this card, I started with a Thick Whisper White card base. I've cut a card-base sized piece of Poppy Parade card stock and dry embossed it with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and adhered it to the card base. Next I used a Stitched Rectangle Die to cut a piece of Whisper White the exact length of the card. I start by selecting a die that was the right width and then extended the length by double cutting the piece.  The poppy field image was stamped multiple times across the stitched rectangle with the Stamparatus so I could ensure it was straight and the flowers were coloured with Poppy Parade Blends. A narrow border of black was added to the top edge and then adhered to the card. I cut the scalloped border, extending it to be longer and then cutting a second standard sized piece and they were butted up against the bottom edge. I added the Baker's Twine bow over the join. The greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set was stamped in Poppy Parade and cropped with a Stitched Rectangle Die and matted on black to provide a narrow border. I finished with the tiny heart and butterfly in Silver Glimmer.

CASE-ing the Catty - Favourite Retiring Punch/Die

This is week we're taking inspiration from our favourite retiring punch or die.

CTC270_1_SU_Sample

This week I have chosen the Bouquet Bunch Dies as they have been a favourite since they were released. I love that there are extra dies in the set that cut foliage and the extra pieces that really add wow to your card.  It looks like the dies are still available at a discounted price, but the coordinating Beautiful Bouquet stamp set is sold out, unfortunately.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Bouquet & Bouquet Bunch Dies - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
This week I decided to stay close to the sample as I really loved the layering of the Very Vanilla elements and it is a different kind of look to what I normally do. So the card base is Very Vanilla and I added the panel of lace, using the Stitched Lace Dies. I need a bit more practice die cutting the edges though, but hopefully the untrained won't notice, lol. I used a sponge to add a fine layer of Tombow glue to the reverse side, which ensures you get a good all over coverage. Next is a stitched rectange of Very Vanilla that I ran through with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, so it would be more noticable.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Bouquet & Bouquet Bunch Dies - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I started by stamping the flowers, using the faux watercolour technique. You ink up your stamp and then give it a very fine spritz  of water (from about 12" away) and then stamp onto watercolour paper. I used Melon Mambo for the large flowers with some Poppy Parade in the centre and Daffodil Delight on the other flower with Crushed Curry in the centre. I added the dots in the centre with Early Espresso after it had dried. It gives a different look, with the edges slightly softer and more shading in the colour.

I cut lots of foliage pieces in Vellum, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and Granny Apple Green and then layered it all together over the long stems die cut to give the bouquet length. I wrapped a piece of Burlap Ribbon around the bouquet and cut 2 strands off the edge to create the matching bow.  The birthday greeting is from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set in stamped in Early Espresso and cropped with a Stitched Rectangle Die and popped up. I finished with the little heart in Gold Glimmer and a trio of gold Metallic Pearls.

Another week that I didn't get the inside finished, so that is first on my list for tomorrow.

Just a reminder, that the Last Chance products are flying out the door, so don't delay if there are still items on your Wish List.  You can check them all out in my Online Store.

Painted Poppies Card Set - Part 1

Hi there

I'm a bit behind with my posting, so I thought I'd pop in and share a set of cards I've made with the Painted Poppies Bundle, which I'm pleased to say has carried over the to new 2020-21 Annual Catalogue. I'll share the first 2 cards today and the other 2 later in the week.

These cards are intended to be a coordinated set with the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper, which sadly, will be retiring (but is still available at the moment). We might think of poppies as primarily being red, because they are used as a flower of remembrance. However, poppies come in a heap of colours and are such pretty spring flowers.

Stampin' Up! Painted Poppies Bundle - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For this card I have used a black card base and then added a layer of Poppy Parade card stock that I ran through with Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, although you can't see this very well in the photo. Next up is a panel of the Peaceful Poppies Designer Paper cut shorter and with a tiny border of white to help it pop. I've stamped the stemmed flower, coloured just the stem and the bud and then die cut it with a stitched oval. The smaller of the 2 poppy flowers was stamped and coloured and popped up over the stem. I've chosen to fussy cut it on the line but you can crop it with the coordinating dies. The greeting is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set and cropped with one of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. Underneath the greeting is a portion of the doily die that comes with the coordinating Painted Labels Dies. I've finished it with a bow using the Glittered Organdy Ribbon.

Stampin' Up! Painted Poppies Bundle - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For this card, I started with a Thick Whisper White card base. I've cut a card-base sized piece of Poppy Parade card stock and heat embossed the greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set in white in the corner. Next I added a piece of my favourite Pool Party design from the Peaceful Poppies DSP pack, which I cut on an angle and then added a border of the Pool Party striped design. White Baker's Twine was wrapped twice around and finished in a bow on the right. I can't believe that this twine is retiring (and has now sold out) as it has been a staple in my craft tool box for 10 years. Because of the angle you will need to use some tape on the back to keep the twine in place.  This whole panel was adhered to the front of the white card base.  I dry enbossed a small piece of Pool Party card stock and cropped it with a stitched circle for the base of my embellishment. The small flower was stamped and coloured, along with some leaves and adhered to the circle. I finished with 3 gold sequins from the Peaceful Poppies Sequins.

CASE-ing the Catty - Inspired by Ornate Garden Week 2

2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty challenge!

If you've come from looking at  Monique's lovely project, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

CTC267_1_BannerThis is week 2 of taking inspiration from the early release  Ornate Garden Suite. This suite is from the forthcoming 2020-21 Annual Catalogue, but you can purchase all of the products in the suite now, either individually or use the single item code #154153 and purchase the entire collection. Check it out now in my online store.

Large images can be quite daunting to work with, when you are cardmaking. By selecting just a portion of the image, you will find it much easier and that is what I have done today. I have used a section of the large floral image from the Ornate Style stamp set and made that the focus of my card. Because the image is large, there are more options for which portion you use, so you can get multiple different looks for your cards. I've also chosen to use a completely different colour combo from the coordinating Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper to show how you can make these products work for you.

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base and I added a layer of Seaside Spray cut with the largest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I did trim my metric card base to work with this die and the label die from the Ornate Layers set, which I cut from Night of Navy card stock. It isn't necessary, but I do like the symmetry!

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I stamped part of the image on a piece of Whisper White and coloured it with Stampin' Blends using Granny Apple Green for the leaves, Balmy Blue for the Forget Me Not flowers and Daffodil Delight with a touch of Mango Melody for the large flower. I left the daisies white, adding a touch of Smoky Slate around the petals to help make them to pop.  You can see in the photo that I have gone around the edge of the image in a very pale grey (Copic N0) to add a little depth. The finished panel was embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Die that fits perfectly into the ornate frame (love that!) and popped up on the Night of Navy ornate frame.

I stamped the greeting from the Dressed To Impress stamp set in Versamark, masking it to just get the 'hello', and heat embossed it in white.  I've fussy cut it and popped it up on foam pads.  A couple of gold Metallic Pearls and a tiny butterfly in Gold Foil finish it off. Normally I would use silver with blue colours, but the gold just added a little extra pop!

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
For the inside, I have used the largest Stitched Rectangle Die for the Seaside Spray mat and then the next size cut in Whisper White for the writing panel. I stamped and coloured the single daisy flower, also from the Ornate Style stamp set and coloured it with Stampin' Blends in the colours I used for the main image. I added some (retired) Night of Navy Baker's twine around the bottom to finish and adhered it to the  Seaside Spray mat.

I hope this project gives you some more ideas of how to use the large floral image from the Ornate Style stamp set.

Did you notice the new colour in the list above - Bumblebee. Not too many guesses required to work out what colour this will be a shade of, lol.

Our inspiration is the flowers in the Ornate Garden Suite and I've decided on the large floral image from the Ornate Style stamp set, using the White Wash Technique.

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I started with a Seaside Spray card base and cut 1cm off the bottom edge and used one of the border dies from the Ornate Borders Dies to create the decorative edge. This die is quite long, so you will need to place it on a sharp angle to cut the bottom edge of a card base. I heat embossed the large floral image with white embossing powder and then used my aqua painter and White Craft reinker to colour the whole image.

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
Once the image was really dry I put a drop of reinker in various colours onto a bunch of acrylic blocks and used my aqua painter to colour the image. To achieve shading and deeper colours, you need to allow the area to dry before adding a second layer or deeper colour.  This technique results in a fairly soft look, but using reinkers you can achieve more intensity. For the daisy flowers, I did a second coat of Craft White and then added a little Smoky Slate around the petals to make the white pop a little more.

I stamped the greeting from the Label Me Bold stamp set in black and then trimmed it with my snips and popped it on Dimensionals, once the whole piece was dry.  I added a 1/4" strip of Whisper White card stock above the decorative edge and then added the Crinkle Seam Binding ribbon over the top, finishing with a bow on the left. The card underneath gives the ribbon a stronger white look.

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
For the inside, I added a 1" strip of the black and white striped design from the retired Golden Honey Specialty Designer Paper at the bottom. For the writing panel, I have used a die from the Ornate Layers set. This die is also long (almost the full length of a card base), so I have reduced the size to work within the space available. To make this process easy (no-fail), cut a piece of cardstock the width of the actual die (in this case 10cm) and then the length you require, plus 2mm.  Place the die at one top edge and position the acyrlic cutting plate to cut only 3/4 of the length of your card stock.  Lift the die off and reposition at the other end of the card stock, locking it into the design already cut. Place the acrylic cutting plate over the end to be cut, just covering the length required to complete the design. I use this process with the Stitched Rectangle Dies and was pleased that it works equally as well with this die, making it more flexible.

I stamped and coloured the single daisy flower, also from the Ornate Style stamp set and coloured it with Stampin' Blends in the colours I used for the main image. I fussy cut the flower and adhered the stem flat and popped up the flower head. The greeting is from the Positive Thoughts stamp set.

Painted Poppies Fancy Fold

Hi there

I've had a busy couple of weeks, but happy that things are calming down again for a little while at least.

One of my favourite products from the January - June 2020 Mini Catalogue has been the Painted Poppies Bundle and the coordinating Peaceful Poppies Designer Paper from the Peaceful Poppies Suite of products

When we talk about poppy flowers, the red poppy probably springs to mind first as it has been strongly associated with Remembrance Day since 1918. However, poppies come in lots of other colours including yellow, orange, white, pink and purple and probably others too. Did you know that the purple poppy is used to remember the animal victims of war?

Painted_Poppies_Bundle_Edited
The Painted Poppies stamp set gives you the option of line images to colour in your favourite medium or a shaded stamp to fill the large images. Plus you have some foliage options, a sweet field of poppies and a single elegant poppy image. The coordinating Painted Labels Dies crop the larger and smaller single flowers and leaf and you also get 3 label dies and a sweet scalloped border as well.

Peaceful_Poppies_DSP

The Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper is bright and bold with lots of  floral designs on one side and simpler coordinating designs on the reverse. This makes it so easy to mix and match for your projects.  The first design in the photo above is a border of orange and purple poppies (the colours are more vibrant in real life as you will see below). You can cut this sheet in half at 6" (15.2cm) and use the panel to make fabulous quick cards. You don't need much more than a greeting.  This is such a lovely panel and I wanted to make the most of a 6" x 6" piece, so I came up with this custom-sized Bridge Fold card.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Moments Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I have used Blackberry Bliss for the card base and the coordinating spotted designer paper for the bridge. The birthday greeting is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set, another of the products from the Peaceful Poppies Suite and I've heat embossed it in white on Blackberry Bliss card stock and cropped it with the new Stitched So Sweetly Dies. I added 3 of the little gold flower sequins from the Peaceful Poppies Sequins.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Moments Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the embellishment, I've coloured the 2 larger poppy flowers with Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends markers and cropped them with the coordinating dies.  The leaves are coloured in Granny Apple Green to complement the bright green at the bottom of the panel. Did you notice the leaf on the left? There is only one leaf stamp and it curves downwards to the right. I wanted a leaf that turns downward to the left, so I created a mirror image. To achieve this, stamp your leaf  first onto a Silicone Mat and then carefully press a panel of Whisper White onto the image. If you set this up in a Stamparatus, you can stamp again on the card stock, so you can still crop the image with the die. You end up with a leaf image on both sides, so you can use one side to die cut the image and the reverse to colour your leaf that goes towards the left. This is a useful technique to have in your crafty bag of tricks. I added a little bit of extra foliage, die cut from Gold Foil using the Birthday Dies from Sale-a-bration Coordination that will be available on 4 February.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Moments Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

The panel for your message is on the reverse. I have a Granny Apple Green mat and I've stamped the upper portion of the field of poppies at the bottom. They are coloured with a Light Blackberry Bliss Stampin' Blends marker.

The card folds flat for posting, but is oversize. However, I think it's worth it to make the most of this lovely panel of designer paper and it makes such a 'wow' card for the lucky recipient.

2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty!

If you've come from looking at the lovely project on Shannon's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week, we're taking a break from the Holiday Catalogue and CASE-ing the Kids & Babbies Section of the Annual Catalogue.

CTC257_Banner

There are lots of cute samples in the Kids & Babies Section of the Annual Catalogue.

CTC257_SU_Sample

I've taken my inspiration from the sample above, although  it may not look too much like it, lol. I've turned it from a portrait to a landscape card.

Stampin' Up! Painted Poppies Bundle - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
Today, I've used the brand new Painted Poppies stamp set from the upcoming January - June 2020 Mini Catalogue (previously called the Occasions Catalogue). I started with a Rich Razzleberry card base and added a layer of Sahara Sand card stock that has been dry embossed with the Mosaic 3D Embossing Folder and matted on Whisper White to leave a narrow border. I added a zigzag of Silver Metallic Edge Ribbon under my embellishment.

CTC257_Pink_Poppies_Close

I enjoyed colouring the lovely floral images from the new Painted Poppies stamp set, using Roccoco Rose and Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blends markers for the flowers and Granny Apple Green Blends for the leaves. There are coordinating dies to crop the flowers and smaller leaf, although I decided to fussy cut them on the line. The greeting from Itty Bitty Birthdays was heat embossed in white on Rich Razzleberry card stock and cropped with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I layered up all the elements onto a Nested Stitched Rectangle Die that I dry embossed first with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. I  inished with some Frosted/Clear Epoxy Droplets and a tiny Silver Glimmer butterfly on the edge of the flower.

Stampin' Up! Painted Poppies Bundle - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
For the inside I have a Sahara Sand mat for my writing panel and I've partially stamped some sweet flowers along the bottom. Another stamp from the Painted Poppies set is a row of poppies, but I've just used the top inch or so of the stamp to create the border. I've coloured the flowers with Light Roccoco Rose and added a dash of Light Rich Razzleberry to the centres. The greeting from Itty Bitty Birthdays is stamped in Rich Razzleberry.

This week, we're CASE-ing the colours from the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper on page 40 of the Holiday Catalogue and taking inspiration from the layouts on the same page.

This paper incorporates a lot of colours, so plenty of options to choose from in this pack. The other fabulous aspect to this paper is that the reverse side of every sheet has a silver foil and white design that will coordinate with a lot of projects.

I've taken my inspiration from the card above, using one of my favourite designs from the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper.  I love the soft purple shades with just a touch of green and the soft blurred background. Instead of a Christmas Card, I've made a simple everyday card with a flexible greeting that could work as a birthday, get well, sympathy or friendship card. It's great to have some of these types of cards in your stash and this paper is perfect for them.

Stampin' Up! Feels Like Frost DSP - Judy May, Just Judy Designs
I wanted to maximise the beautiful designer paper, so I've gone for a large square card base (size is 13.5cm or 5 1/4") in Highland Heather and I added a white mat to the designer paper to give it a bit of pop. Can't get simpler than that.

For the embellishment, I started with a large oval of Vellum card stock, just to soften the background and give it more focus. I added a zig-zag of the lovely Old Olive/Pretty Peacock Reversible Ribbon to pick up the green in the paper and add a pop of colour. The greeting from Good Morning Magnolia was stamped in Gorgeous Grape and cropped with the Stitched Nested Label Dies. I shortened it by cutting 3/4 of the image first then moving the die to the length I wanted. This is a great technique to master as you get more mileage out of all of your basic shape and label dies.

The flowers in the paper reminded me of the foliage in the Frosted Bouquet Dies, so I cut some in Silver Foil and Vellum card stock and positioned them under the corners of the greeting label, which I popped up over the top. I finished with a little popped up Silver Glimmer heart and a sprinkle of Frosted Epoxy Droplets.

For the inside I have a Silver Foil mat for my writing panel and I have stamped the floral spray from the First Frost stamp set on the right. It also looks a bit similiar to the flowers on the designer paper and I used Stampin' Write markers direct to the rubber with Gorgeous Grape and Granny Apple Green. I added a narrow strip of Silver Glimmer at the base to ground the floral spray.

Beauty Abounds Especially For You

Hi there

Today I'm sharing a card that we made in class earlier this year, that somehow escaped getting to my blog. I was inspired by this card using the lovely Beauty Abounds stamp set, which is still available in the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue. I have kept the layout the same, but I wanted  my card to have more colour and pop.

Stampin' Up! Beauty Abounds - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
The Whisper White centre panel was stamped twice with the large floral spray image from the Beauty Abounds stamp set, masking off the centre area so that it didn't over stamp the first image.  The bubbles were randomly stamped over the top in Lemon Lime Twist and Balmy Blue ink and the panel was adhered to a mat of Lemon Lime Twist that had the bottom edge finished with the scalloped and stitched border from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. The greeting from the Botanical Bliss set was stamped at the base of the card front-sized Balmy Blue panel and the art panel was adhered to it.

The butterfly was punched out of the (retired) Botanical Butterfly Designer paper and adhered to another butterfly punched out of Whisper White card stock to make it more robust. I coloured it with Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers. It was popped up on a stitched circle die cut with the Stitched Shapes Dies and then onto a Balmy Blue circle.  I finished with a rhinestone for the head of the butterfly and each side of the greeting.

For the inside, I have mat of Lemon Lime Twist  for the writing panel. I stamped the floral spray on the right and coloured it with Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers. I finished with a couple of tiny Balmy Blue butterflies cut with the Butterfly Beauty dies.
