Milestone Fancy Fold Birthday Card
January 17, 2024
I'm slowly getting back into the swing of the new year and taking the opportunity to do a few housekeeping tasks in my craft room. With relocating and house renovations in the last few years, I haven't had the opportunity to sell my retired product as I normally would, so I've been busy sorting and listing all the products that I'm selling. If you're interested, you can see a list of my retired product for sale here. I only ship to Australian residents, sorry.
During our pre-Christmas visit to Western Australia in December, my husband celebrated a milestone birthday with a lifelong friend. As you would expect, I was tasked with making a special card for the occasion. This Slimline Tri-fold card is my go-to for milestone occasions as it has a real 'wow' factor. It also fits into a standard metric business size (DL) envelope with standard postage, if you need to post it.
I chose Blueberry Bushel and silver for a simple and elegant colour combo that still has a pop of brightness as well. The base card is Basic White with layers of Blueberry Bushel and a narrow trim of Silver Foil at the top and bottom.
I've used the retired Large Numbers dies and I cut 6 of each number in Smoky Slate card stock that had Adhesive Sheet added first. This allowed me to quickly adhere them all together and finally a layer of Silver Foil on top. This gives a fabulous dimension to the numbers that really pops. At the top of the first fold, I have the 'Celebrate' die cut from the Wanted To Say Dies. I cropped 2 of these from Smoky Slate card stock and adhered them together to make it more robust and added the fabulous Adhesive-Backed Silver Glimmer paper on top. To hold the celebrate in place, I have partially cut the shadow die from Window Sheet, so that I could sandwich it between the card base and layer of Blueberry Bushel and the die cut was adhered on top. You can see a slight reflection from the Window Sheet in the photo above. Using the Adhesive Sheets is the secret to putting this card together quickly and professionally without any messy glue residue to deal with.
I have left the writing panel in the middle plain, but you could add a greeting if desired. On the last panel, I've cropped 3 balloons with the Beautiful Balloons Dies from Silver Glimmer, Silver Foil and Gold Celebrations Specialty DSP (the reverse side is silver) with the Silver Foil balloon embossed with the Basics 3D Embossing Folder. I added a silver string behind each balloon with a glue dot and then positioned them at the top; two are adhered flat and the front one is popped up. I used the retired Happy Birthday Thinlits die cropped from Silver Glimmer, adhered below the balloons. I sprinkled some Silver Foil and Glimmer stars around all the panels.
I was very happy with the final result and hopefully the recipient liked it, too. If you're interested in making this card, I have a tutorial available. It uses different products and is a feminine version (shown below), so it gives you more ideas of how to decorate it.
