Heart of Christmas - Traditions of St. Nick

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

Can you believe this is week 16 and our penultimate week of holiday season inspiration! I'm pleased that I've made it every week but one and have a nice stash of Christmas cards to send out in the first week of December.

Today's card is nothing like the one I pictured in my head, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I love the old world charm of the Traditions of St. Nick DSP with the rich colours and brocade designs. St. Nick is where our tradition of gift giving originated and resonates more with me than some of the contemporary Christmas options we have.

Normally I start with a card base, but today I ended up with the Gray Granite card base as it isn't as stark as white and I think it works with the rich tones of Mossy Meadow and Cherry Cobbler. I have a Basic White Deckled Rectangle and I added a puddle with Pebbled Path Stampin' Blend marker for St. Nick to stand in and splattered the background with Pebbled Path ink to age it a litte. St. Nick was fussy cut after adhering the roughtly cut image to Basic White and the panel was added to the Mossy Meadow brocade panel.

I added a strip of the red brocade to ground the rectangle and create the border for the greeting below. I wanted a bit of sparkle, so I added a narrow strip of the Adhesive-Backed Gold Glimmer across the centre. The trees were fussy cut from the paper and adhered flat apart from the small one at the front that was popped up. The greeting from the Wishes All Around stamp set was stamped in Real Red and fussy cut and popped up on Foam Adhesive Strip.

Heart of Christmas - Shining Brightly Christmas Gift Set

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

As we get closer to the pointy end of the holiday craft season, I've been thinking about small gift options for neighbours, customers and people like my hairdresser and beautician who have provided great service during the year.

Stampin' Up! Shining Brightly Christmas Gift Set | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

So, I created this cute gift bag with a piece of 6" x 12" Shining Brightly Specialty Designer Series Paper. The finished size is 4 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/4" (12cm x 11.4cm x 3.2cm). You can use directional paper as well, as the bag folds around horizontally and it easily fits a full 120g bag of Lindt balls, a large gingerbread cookie or the small square box of Guylian Shells. I filled this bag with the Limited Edition Mint Collection Lindt balls.

I've added a strip of the Adhesive-Backed Gold Glimmer Paper at the top, which adds a sparkly contrast and strength to the top section where the handles are located. The Christmas greeting from the Brightest Glow stamp set was heat embossed in gold onto Night of Navy card stock and cropped with one of the Tailor Made Tags Dies and I popped a sparkly holly leaf on the corner and it's held in place with a Dimensional.

I created a simple coordinating 4" square card to fit into the gift bag, using the same materials, with the greeting from the Wishes All Around stamp set stamped in Night of Navy ink and finished with gold Festive Pearls

This gift set would look lovely created with many of our 12" x 12" papers from the holiday Mini Catalogue. For those that may be interested, I'll have a tutorial available shortly.

Heart of Christmas - Week 14

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

It's been a busy week, so I have created a simple card with the Traditions of St. Nick designer paper doing the heavy lifting.

I started with a Thick Basic White card base and added a layer of the red plaid paper from the Joy of Christmas pack to provide a contrast to the muted St. Nick in his green coat.  I cropped St. Nick from the paper with my trimmer and added a narrow border of Garden Green. I added the panel to a piece of Basic White, intending to stamp the greeting at the bottom. However, the panel was a bit narrow for the greetings I wanted to use, so I added the strip of Garden Green at the bottom. I stamped my favourite greeting from the Wishes All Around stamp set in Real Red and fussy cut it and popped it up on the Garden Green panel.

To add some more interest, I roughly cut another St. Nick image from the paper and adhered it to Basic White card stock and then fussy cut it and popped it up over the panel. I cropped some stars from Gold Glimmer using the Cracker & Treat Box Dies and added them to the top of the trees and finished with a trio of gold Festive Pearls.

For the inside I have a mat of Garden Green and a strip of the red plaid at the bottom. I fussy cut a tree from the paper and added it to the writing panel with a Gold Glimmer star on the top.

Heart of Christmas - Merriest Trees

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

This week I have a card featuring the Merriest Trees Dies. I finally caved on this bundle and I don't know why I waited so long! I'm channeling Artisan Tammy Wilson who made a gorgeous card with ink blended trees in Pretty Peacock and Granny Apple Green. I decided to try it with Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green, watercoloured to get some nice variation in colour for my trees. Note to Self: don't get too creative when you're short on time!

I started with a Thick Basic White card base and then dry embossed another panel with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder for some background texture.

I've used 3 layers for the trees that I die cut from my watercoloured panels and adhered them together with 1mm foam pads for a little dimension. I've decorated the first tree with gold sequins and die cut the 2 piece star from the Gold Glimmer. The second tree has the strings of beads cropped with the die from the Merriest Trees Dies. These are so easy with the Adhesive-Backed Glimmer Paper. The greeting is from the Joy of Noel stamp set, stamped in Shaded Spruce ink and fussy cut. I'm not sure about the greeting, maybe it should have been in a contrasting colour?

Heart of Christmas - Joy of Christmas

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.  My gosh, can you believe it is already week 1o!

The Joy of Christmas DSP is one of my favourites of the offerings for the holidays this year. I've used almost all of the prints apart from the beautiful large scale print, so this week it was my mission to use the 6" x 12" panel I had left from a team paper share.

I wanted a really simple layout that would let the paper be the hero. I cut the panel into 3 card front pieces and adhered to them to Shaded Spruce card bases, which was the option I liked best. I decided on a strip of Gold Foil as a background for the NOEL and adhered the letters flat so I could pop up the fussy cut 'Joyous'. I liberally sprinkled gold sequins to tie in with the Gold Foil.

For the inside, I have a strip of the red plaid paper at the bottom and the writing panel above. I partially stamped the spray from the Joy of Noel stamp set and coloured it with Stampin' Blends.
