CASE-ing the Catty - Sale-a-bration Last Hurrah

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

Sale-a-bration finishes next Friday 31 March, so this week the CTC Crew are CASE-ing a project of our choice from the Sale-a-bration Catalogue or the Second Release brochure.

You may have come from looking at the inspiring project  on Kathryn's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week, I'm CASE-ing the gold and white striped tin. I've had this in mind for a few weeks, so this was the perfect opportunity to do it. These tins are fabulous for storing your finished cards, embossing folders, washi tape, pearls and rhinestone embellishments and many more besides. I'm going to use my tin to take swaps to the next Stampin' Up! OnStage event that is  just over 2 weeks away - woohoo!  Love these events and we will get to see the new 2017-18 Annual Catalogue for the first time, plus get our own copy to pore over.

I've stayed with Night of Navy for the letters  as it coordinates so well with the gold and white. The letters were die cut with the 'Large Letters Framelits', which were a fortuitous recent purchase. I cut a strip of card stock and adhered Sizzix adhesive sheet to it and then cut the letters. The result is instant stickers that make for a quick and mess-free embellishment. I removed the backing paper from a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper and also adhered the adhesive sheet before cutting the flourish from the 'Flourish Thinlits' dies. I attached the S, W, P and S first and then partly adhered the flourish and wove it through the A.

Here is a close-up showing all the yummy sparkle. I did trim off one leaf behind the 'A' and re-positioned it. I didn't want anything too delicate for the embellishment, so I think this fits the bill. Now I have to get my act together so I will have something to put in it, lol.

I had time to squeeze in one more project, although there were more that I would like to have done. This one is from the Sale-a-bration Second Release brochure. It isn't a particularly good photo, but hopefully you can see it is a clean and simple card using the 'Reverse Words' stamp set.

I have swapped to a portrait style card, still using the 'cheers' stamp in Sweet Sugarplum to match the glimmer paper at the top and bottom. I wanted this to be a congratulations type card, that you could give to a colleague or friend. I don't have any stamp sets with wine glasses, so I improvised using the little bird cage from the 'Builder Birdcage' stamp set the other way up. I wanted the final result to still have a clean look, so I've left lots of white space and not too much extra embellishment.

CASE-ing the Catty - Cupcakes & Carousels

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

Today the CTC Crew are taking inspiration from the 'Cupcake & Carousels' section of the new Occasions Catalogue.

You may have come from looking at the inspiring creation on Jackie's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

It was hard choosing a sample to CASE from this section, so I have 2 projects from the group on page 8.  I'm going through a 'Bermuda Bay' phase at the moment, so the colour combo and the bold sunburst design of the card in front attracted me and I wanted to break open the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment pack.

CTC112_SU_Sample_2

The sample card uses one of the designs from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper stack. I don't have this DSP, so I decided to create my own sunburst using the Sunburst Thinlits dies. I went on a bit of a creative journey to get to my final result. My original idea was to use the Sunburst die cut as a mask and sponge the alternate colour onto the Pool Party card stock. However, once I had finished I decided I actually liked the look of the blotchy mask, so I sponged on more colour to smooth it out a bit.  It is a bit hard to see in the photo, but I added some 'grunge' to the Pool Party background using one of the stamps from 'Timeless Textures' stamp set and then adhered the sun burst over the top and mounted it onto an Early Espresso base card. I really like the extra dimension that this gives to the card.

I have also used one of the gold-trimmed labels from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment kit, but instead of stamping directly on it, I added the Tangerine Tango banner and popped up the greeting that I die cut with the Project Life Framelits. I added the balloon to coordinate with the greeting.

This closeup photo gives you a better view of the lovely gold-trimmed label and the texture and dimension created by the various elements on the card.  The colours are more intense than the photo shows.

For the inside, I have added a strip of the Early Espresso design from the Moroccan DSP and topped it with the narrow Tangerine Tango washi from the Party Animal set. The smaller balloon from 'Lift Me Up' has been stamped and coloured and then die cut and popped in the top right corner to finish. This card is going to a young man who achieved his chosen university course, so I hope he likes it!

Stamps Lift Me Up, Timeless Textures
Card stock & Papers     Early Espresso, Pool Party, Very Vanilla, thick Whisper White, Moroccan DSP
Ink Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake

Tools     Sunburst Framelits, Up & Away Thinlits, Project Life Framelits, Itty Bitty Banners (retired), Big Shot, Stampin' Write markers, Sponge dauber

My second project is the cafe treat bag just above and to the right of the sunburst card. I have kept the basic layout but have added a scallop circle with one of the lovely new Lace Doilies as the focal point for my greeting.  The designer paper is from the 'Succulent Garden' pack. The Petite Cafe treat bags are great for a range of gifts as well as treats as they have a wide gusset that fits more than you would expect.

Colourful Congrats

Hi there

Just popping in to show you this card I made for a special teenager. I have inked up the large splotch from the 'Gorgeous Grunge' stamp set for the first time, using colours from the 'Brights' collection.  The card is very clean and simple, with lots of white contrasting with the bright colours to make it pop. Don't you love it when a card comes together really quickly?

Celebrating Achievement

Hello again

The card I have for you today was made to celebrate the achievement of Flynn, the son of my good friend Fiona.  Flynn was elected School Captain for his last year at primary school.  Way to go, Flynn!  As my DH said, probably the only kid at his school who can't wait for the new school year to start!

I have used the 'Celebrations' DSP, which is great for any card or scrap page for kids with its bold colours and designs. Luckily the banner with his name, created with the 'Party This Way' stamp set fitted nicely onto the card.  I've threaded the panels together with stranded cotton and created a tassel at each end.  The background has been embossed with the 'Square Lattice' embossing folder, new in the Summer Mini and now a favourite as it works well for both feminine and masculine styles.

Starry Congrats

Hello again

The card I have to share with you today was made for our 18 year old Godson to congratulate him on successfully completing his Tertiary Enabling Programme. This is a 6 month course designed to prepare young people to undertake a full time degree course.  Well done, Joss.

Stars came to mind, so I got out my Classic Stars jumbo wheel and Real Red ink pad and quickly prepared a half sheet of starry background.  This is a great way to prepare backgrounds and I should use them more often. This was teamed with Night of Navy and more Real Red for a bold effect. The small and large star punches were used to cut out the blue outline star which was popped up over a strategically placed star on the background. A silver star brad was added to the centre to finish it off.  I like the bold sentiment from the retired Congrats stamp set which has been white embossed.

It is going to be a wild and woolly day in Melbourne as the storm from WA reaches us.  My nicely swept path and driveway is now piled with leaves from the very large  Liquidamber tree in the front yard. Oh well, they have to come down eventually!

Have a great weekend.
