Beauty Abounds Especially For You

Hi there

Today I'm sharing a card that we made in class earlier this year, that somehow escaped getting to my blog. I was inspired by this card using the lovely Beauty Abounds stamp set, which is still available in the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue. I have kept the layout the same, but I wanted  my card to have more colour and pop.

Stampin' Up! Beauty Abounds - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
The Whisper White centre panel was stamped twice with the large floral spray image from the Beauty Abounds stamp set, masking off the centre area so that it didn't over stamp the first image.  The bubbles were randomly stamped over the top in Lemon Lime Twist and Balmy Blue ink and the panel was adhered to a mat of Lemon Lime Twist that had the bottom edge finished with the scalloped and stitched border from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. The greeting from the Botanical Bliss set was stamped at the base of the card front-sized Balmy Blue panel and the art panel was adhered to it.

The butterfly was punched out of the (retired) Botanical Butterfly Designer paper and adhered to another butterfly punched out of Whisper White card stock to make it more robust. I coloured it with Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers. It was popped up on a stitched circle die cut with the Stitched Shapes Dies and then onto a Balmy Blue circle.  I finished with a rhinestone for the head of the butterfly and each side of the greeting.

For the inside, I have mat of Lemon Lime Twist  for the writing panel. I stamped the floral spray on the right and coloured it with Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers. I finished with a couple of tiny Balmy Blue butterflies cut with the Butterfly Beauty dies.

This week, our challenge is to CASE a layout from page 101 of the Annual Catalogue.

CTC241_SU_Sample

Here is a closer look at the card I have used for my inspiration. The elements that spoke to me were the double frame and coloured images popped up from the background. My initial thought was to make a diorama card with my chosen stamp set Seaside Notions, which I was fortunate to be able to borrow from a lovely crafting friend.  However, after making my card I think I'll be investing in this stamp set as it has a great set of sea-themed images (and I LOVE seahorses) as well as useful greetings that aren't too large.

Stampin' Up! Seaside Notions - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
Well, the best laid creative plans didn't come to fruition as I had planned. I've taken the inspiration photo and used it to create this portrait faux diorama card. Once I decided which of the Stitched Rectangle Dies I wanted to use, it was a matter of calculating the width of the borders to keep it in proportion. The finished card is standard height (14.85cm) and 11.1 wide and the frame is 6mm deep.  I started by sponging my background panel with Crumb Cake , Pool Party, Blueberry Bushel and then more Pool Party to simulate the light coming through the water. I stamped the dotted image in Soft Suede over the top of the Crumb Cake to look more like the gritty bottom sand.

Stampin' Up! Seaside Notions - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
Once the sponged panel was finished, I used Foam Strips to pop up the Crumb Cake frame over the top and layout out my elements. On the left is the seaweed die cut from Old Olive Vellum from the Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock pack using the Smooth Sailing Dies.  The other images are from the Seaside Notions stamp set, stamped in various colours of ink and then coloured with Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers. There are no dies with this stamp set unfortunately, so I have fussy cut them right on the line and inked the edges with a coordinating Stampin' Write Marker.

I wanted a very 3D 'floaty' effect for my card, so I just attached the seaweed at the bottom and then curled the seahorse around it and adhered it just in the centre on a foam pad, so the head is free. The coral and shells are popped up at various heights on foam pads. When all the elements were in position on the sponged background, I adhered the Blueberry Bushel frame over the top. The sides of the frame fold over, encasing the Crumb Cake border and are adhered under the long edges of the sponged background. It is open at the top and bottom like a normal diorama card. The 'box frame' is then adhered to the Blueberry Bushel card base. I finished with a trio of Frosted Epoxy Droplets for air bubbles and the greeting from the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set stamped in Pretty Peacock and die cut to size with the Rectangle Stitched Dies.

Stampin' Up! Seaside Notions - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the inside I have a continued with the Stitched Rectangle Dies to create a Crumb Cake border for my writing panel. I sponged the bottom edge to match the front of the card and popped up the coral on the right edge, together with the Sand Dollar and small shell. I added some stretched Copper Trim under the Sand Dollar for a bit of extra texture.  The greetings from the Itty Bitty Birthday stamp set were stamped before adding the frame.

It isn't really a post-friendly card, but luckily this one is going to be hand delivered and I will make a coordinating box-elope for it, so it travels safely. Despite the initial hiccups, I'm really happy with how the card turned out!

This week we have free reign to CASE from the huge Everyday Occasions section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 12 -71. Wow, so many fabulous samples in this section makes it hard to choose and I didn't get too far before settling on this project. It was just the incentive I needed to break out new products from the Noble Peacock Suite.

CTC240_SU_Sample_2
I've changed up the colours and started  with a Gorgeous Grape card base. I cut another card front panel and embossed it with the Beads & Baubles Embossing Folder. I wasn't too sure about this embossing folder when I first saw it, but as usual, seeing it 'in real life' makes a huge difference. As I turned over the panel to added double-sided tape I saw the de-bossed side and decided I would go with that instead. Both are lovely, but the de-bossed side is more subtle and allows the focus to be on the peacock. When I have this dilemma, I take a photo of each option and that allows me to compare and decide.

Stampin' Up! Noble Peacock Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
For the background to the peacock,  I embossed a panel of thick Whisper White with my favourite Subtle embossing folder and then die cut with the largest of the Stitched Label Dies. I find this process to provides a better result as the 'stitching' gets flattened and muddied when you die cut first and then emboss.

Stampin' Up! Noble Peacock Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

To create the peacock, I cut a panel of Whisper White and used daubers to blend Granny Apple Green, Blueberry Bushel and Gorgeous Grape inks. I then positioned the peacock die to capture the colours in the way I wanted.  I pressed the die cut into the Versamark ink pad and heat embossed with clear embossing powder for a lovely shiny finish. I hope you can see a bit of that in the photo above as it really takes it to another level. I popped up the peacock on 1mm foam pads for extra dimension. Yes, it was fiddly but worth it. I cut them into very narrow strips and added them to the vertical sections of the peacock tail. I've used the Silver Metallic Edge ribbon behind my greeting from the Parcels & Petals stamp set that was stamped in Gorgeous Grape and cropped with the smallest of the Layering Ovals Dies. I finished with a little flower on the edge with some bling and a tiny 2mm rhinestone for the peacock eye.

Stampin' Up! Noble Peacock Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the inside I have a mat of Granny Apple Green for the writing panel and stamped the greeting from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set towards the top in Gorgeous Grape.  There was a corner left on my sponged panel, so I die cut the peacock feather and used the same process of pressing it into Versamark ink and clear embossing it.

Bird Ballad Pop-Up Fancy Fold

Hi there

Today I'm sharing a fancy fold card using the Bird Ballad Suite of products. I was inspired by this card from Amanda Bates and decided to come up with a landscape version of her Pop-up Front Step Panel card.  I've sized it for the frame I created with the Stitched Rectangle Dies that fits the large bird image from the Free As A Bird stamp set.

Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite Fancy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

The back panel and the step is created from a single piece of Pool Party card stock and I've used two coordinating designs from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper to embellish them.

Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite Fancy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I stamped the bird image onto a piece of Whisper White cut to the exact size of the frame I created with two Stitched Rectangle Dies. I used Memento Espresso Truffle ink for a slightly softer outline to the image and then coloured it with Stampin' Blends markers. I went over the background with the Light Pool Party Stampin' Blend marker to add some sky. White Baker's Twine was wrapped twice around the finished art piece and then adhered to the front panel. The finished front panel was then adhered to the back panel and the front of the step. The greeting was white embossed on Bermuda Bay card stock and cropped with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I finished with a fussy cut flower, bud and leaves in the corner.

Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite Fancy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I have created a writing panel on the reverse, with a mat of Petal Pink card stock and part of the bird image stamped and coloured in the bottom corner.

The card fold flats for easy mailing. To get the proportions I was happy with, it is slightly over size, so I made a custom envelope for a snug fit.

This week, our challenge is to CASE a layout from Page 103 of the Annual Catalogue and change the theme.

CTC239_SU_Sample

I decided to CASE the cute baby gift bag in the photo above, which I've cropped out so you can see it better.  I decided to change from a 3D item to a card and the theme to a feminine birthday.

Stampin' Up! Bloom & Grow - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I started  with a piece of Balmy Blue card stock embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder that I found in my scrap bag and used a Layering Squares die to cut the aperture. I placed it on the thick Whisper White card base and traced around the aperture and used that to position another Layering Squares die, resulting in a double frame. I added foam strips to the Balmy Blue panel and popped it up over the white card base so that it would stay firm and not go saggy.

Stampin' Up! Bloom & Grow - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I could have stamped the greeting on the inside of the card, so you could see through the frame, but I decided to stamp the lovely greeting from the Rare Blessings stamp set in Blueberry Bushel ink on another panel of Whisper white and adhered it to the inside and it covered the not so nice back of the die cut.

I have stamped and coloured the lovely blossom spray from the Bloom & Grow stamp set and popped it up at the bottom of the frame.  I used Stampin' Blends alcohol markers in Balmy Blue, Rococo Rose, So Saffron and Granny Apple Green. I didn't want to cover the frame, so I added a double bow of silver/white Baker's Twine at the base of the flowers.

Stampin' Up! Bloom & Grow - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the inside I have a Balmy Blue mat for the writing panel and a strip of Balmy Blue Gingham at the base. I fussy cut part of the floral spray and added it to corner. The birthday greeting is from the Perennial Birthday stamp set and stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink.

This week, we are CASE-ing the colours from the Garden Lane DSP on page 41 of the Annual Catalogue.  The Garden Lane Designer Series Paper is in lots of shades of green. I use green a lot for accents, but it isn't a primary go-to colour for me, so creating just with these colours was a real challenge.

I chose one of the designs from the Garden Lane Designer series paper pack as my starting point and then took my queues from the paper.

Stampin' Up! Garden Lane DSP, Daisy Punches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I started  with a Mint Macaron card base and added a piece of the soft leafy patterned paper with a white background. In the centre is a panel of Mint Macaron card stock that I have dry embossed with the new Bricks & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder for some added interest and texture.

Stampin' Up! Garden Lane DSP, Daisy Punches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
My focus is a fluffy white daisy created with thick Whisper White card stock and the Daisy Punch and the new Medium Daisy Punch. I've got 3 layers of petals for the base and 2 layers for the centre. The stamens are in Mint Macaron and cropped with a die from the Magnolia Memory Dies. I finished it with a large Clear Faceted Gem. Also from the same die set are the 2 leaves in Mossy Meadow.

I also stamped the greeting from the Rare Blessings stamp set in Mossy Meadow and cropped it with the Rectangle Stitched Dies. To finish I have finished with a silver leaf from the Leaves Trinkets topped with a Mint Macaron Baker's Twine bow. I used the Light Mint Macaron Stampin' Blend marker to colour White Baker's twine.

Stampin' Up! Garden Lane DSP, Daisy Punches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the inside I added a layer of the designer paper and then the stitched rectangle writing panel matte on Mint Macaron card stock. I added another daisy at the base, this time just using the Medium Daisy Punch and a centre of Mossy Meadow. Instead of a gem I added a punched circle in Silver Glimmer.

CASE-ing the Catty - CASE a Layout

This week, we are CASE-ing a layout from page 151 of the Annual Catalogue.  You can see the variety of layouts in the photo above. My initial inspiration came from the card at the top right with the weather vane and also the card on the top left with the cropped Stitched Nested Label Die. So my card is a mash-up of both layouts with a bit of creative license thrown in!

Stampin' Up! Pocketful of Happiness - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
So this is what I came up with. I turned the card at the top right 90to make it portrait. The card base is Lovely Lipstick and I add a panel of Gray Granite card stock that was dry embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. I then created a waist band at the top and added some belt loops. The straight die that comes with the fabulous Stitched Nested Labels Dies was used to create the stitched look, which makes it look authentic, don't you think? I found out the hard way that you need to do the embossing before adding the stitching, as the stitching gets flattened.

Stampin' Up! Pocketful of Happiness - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I bought the Pocketful of Happiness stamp set as I loved the slightly retro look of the imagery and the sample project in Annual Catalogue. Are you old enough to remember embroidered jeans from the 70's? The 'pocket' image coordinates with the Pocket Dies that I don't have, but when I saw the cropped Stitched Nested Label in the card at the top left, I wondered whether any of those dies would be large enough. Well, I'm stoked to tell you that the largest of the Stitched Nested Label Dies works perfectly with this image and I used the straight die to add the stitching across the top.

The image was coloured with Stampin' Blends - Lovely Lipstick for the flowers, Granny Apple Green for the leaves and the background with Light Pool Party.  I also went around the image with Dark Pool Party to add a bit of shadow. I used the Chalk Marker to colour the bird and then added a hint of shadow with the Basic Gray watercolour pencil. The flowers in the pocket are a separate image, which were coloured and then fussy cut and popped up at different heights in the pocket. The greeting is from the Very Versailles stamp set and is pretty flexible for a friendship, birthday or 'just because' card. I wanted the greeting label to be the same colour as the pocket, so I coloured a small piece of card stock with the  light Pool Party Stampin' Blend marker. When it was dry and I stamped the greeting in Lovely Lipstick ink and cropped it with the smallest of the ovals from the Stitched Shapes Dies.

Stampin' Up! Pocketful of Happiness - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

For the inside I added a Gray Granite mat to the white writing panel, which tones down the brightness of the Lovely Lipstick a little. At the base is a strip of the Lovely Lipstick gingham designer paper and at the top I've stamped and coloured another of the coordinating images from the Pocketful of Happiness stamp set.

Well, I hope you can see how the creative process brought me to this point! CASE-ing is a great way to get inspired and who knows where you will end up, lol.

CASE-ing the Catty - Love, Thanks, Support

This week, we're taking inspiration from the Love, Thanks & Support section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 72-97.  There are just so many fabulous samples in this huge section of the catalogue.  I'm definitely going to be CASE-ing a few more projects from these pages in the future.

CTC236_SU_Sample

I settled on the card above, using products from the Bird Ballad Suite. The Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper is fabulous for fussy cutting the pretty bird images and I love all of the coordinating colours.

Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I decided to make my card square, so I could create some extra 'real estate'. As with the sample, I have used Pool Party for my base card and the top layer, which has been die cut with the fabulous Stitched Nested Labels Dies. The leaves were stamped with Pool Party ink before adding a layer of Whisper White behind the aperture, leaving a narrow border.  I wanted to bring in some extra colour so I added a wider border of Petal Pink before layering the panel on the 13cm square Pool Party card base.

Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I knew I was going to pop-up the image, so I adhered it first to some Whisper White before fussy cutting. I chose to cut close to the line as you can then go around the image with a slightly lighter marker (I used a Soft Suede Stampin' Write marker) to cover the white core. Because it can be hard to get into areas such as behind the bird's legs, putting the image on the same colour background (in this case white), means that it is much less noticeable. Where this isn't possible, you maybe able to colour the background like I did for the top flower in the photo. I used a Light Pool Party Stampin' Blend Marker to colour the small area between the flowers.  Some of the stems on the flower buds are very narrow, so another trick I use is to leave a little bit of white on each side of the stem and then colour it with the marker.

I used a greeting from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, stamped in Calypso Coral on Petal Pink card stock and cropped with the Classic Label Punch, which mirrors the shape of the aperture. I added a little scallop border in Calypso coral to tie in the Petal Pink mat and flowers. A sprinkle of rhinestones finish it off.

CTC236_Stampin' Up! Bird Ballad Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourneird_Ballad_Inside

For the inside I have mirrored the Petal Pink mat with the white writing panel. At the base is a strip of the sweet striped designer paper which includes most of the colours in the bird image. On a scrap of designer paper I found the half bird image, which was the perfect colour and conveniently facing in the right direction.

This week, we're CASE-ing the layout in the photo above from page 159 of the Annual Catalogue. This is such a great layout and you'll see lots of inspiration from the team, so make sure you go through the hop and see them all.

Stampin' Up! Birthday Goodness - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

When I saw the layout, I immediately thought of the new Birthday Goodness stamp set, waiting to be inked for the first time. It is a set of 9 cling stamps featuring the gorgeous display (I'm sure there is a culinary name for it) of macarons that you see on my card.  I decided my macarons would be chocolate with raspberry filling and that is what I have based my colour palette on.

I started with a panel of Whisper White and stamped the macarons in Memento Espresso Truffle, which is a dark brown and slightly softer than Tuxedo Black. The macarons were coloured in Crumb Cake with the centre in light Rococo Rose. The roses were stamped again and coloured with light and dark Rococo Rose, fussy cut and popped up over the roses on the main panel. I've used Smoky Slate for the stand for a silver look.  I added some retired silver Mini Sequin Trim and silver Baker's Twine for the embellishment on the side.

I realised that I had cut myself a bit short at the top, so I flagged the bottom end to give the illusion of a bit more length and added another smaller piece of flagged Silver Foil underneath (although it looks black in the photo because of reflection). I popped up the panel on some pretty Rococo Rose gingham and then onto the Whisper White card  base that was embossed with the Scripty 3D embossing folder, which you can see a lot clearer in the photo above. I finished with the birthday greeting from Birthday Goodness heat embossed in white on Rococo Rose card stock and cropped with the Stitched Rectangle dies.

For the inside I have a mat of Rococo Rose and a strip of Crumb Cake gingham paper at the bottom. I stamped the streamers at the top in Rococo Rose and added another of the greetings from Birthday Goodness in the centre. I stamped, coloured and fussy cut 2 of the little roses for the bottom corner.
