Heart of Christmas - Traditions of St. Nick

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

Can you believe this is week 16 and our penultimate week of holiday season inspiration! I'm pleased that I've made it every week but one and have a nice stash of Christmas cards to send out in the first week of December.

Today's card is nothing like the one I pictured in my head, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I love the old world charm of the Traditions of St. Nick DSP with the rich colours and brocade designs. St. Nick is where our tradition of gift giving originated and resonates more with me than some of the contemporary Christmas options we have.

Normally I start with a card base, but today I ended up with the Gray Granite card base as it isn't as stark as white and I think it works with the rich tones of Mossy Meadow and Cherry Cobbler. I have a Basic White Deckled Rectangle and I added a puddle with Pebbled Path Stampin' Blend marker for St. Nick to stand in and splattered the background with Pebbled Path ink to age it a litte. St. Nick was fussy cut after adhering the roughtly cut image to Basic White and the panel was added to the Mossy Meadow brocade panel.

I added a strip of the red brocade to ground the rectangle and create the border for the greeting below. I wanted a bit of sparkle, so I added a narrow strip of the Adhesive-Backed Gold Glimmer across the centre. The trees were fussy cut from the paper and adhered flat apart from the small one at the front that was popped up. The greeting from the Wishes All Around stamp set was stamped in Real Red and fussy cut and popped up on Foam Adhesive Strip.

An interesting choice of colour for your card base, Judy, but it does work well with the richer tones of this DSP. I do love the gold accents. An elegant card.

Judy, that brocade pattern of DSP is really perfect for your traditional Christmas theme. The puddle to ground St Nick is great and the fussy cut sentiment is perfect.

Gray Granite really does suit the vintagey "vibe" of your card, and those regal colours, Judy. I love the Gray Granite puddle and splatters on the Deckled Rectangle, and the addition of a strip of gold glimmer paper. Lovely card, as always.
