Heart of Christmas - Jolly Words

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

This week I have a cute card for you, using the new Jolly Words stamp set.

Stampin' Up! Jolly Words & Merry Bold & Bright DSP | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I paired the image with the fun prints from the Merry Bold & Bright Designer Paper with the Christmas lights at the top and bottom and bordered with the FA LA LA LA, layered on a Granny Apple Green card base.

The elf image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo black and then coloured with Stampin' Blends, using colours from the Christmas lights paper. I masked off the 'J and 'Y' from the image I coloured and stamped them separately in Balmy Blue ink. The letters were fussy cut and popped up using Foam Adhesive Strips.

I continued the theme on the inside, with the border at the top and bottom and writing panel in the centre.

This week we are CASE-ing a project featuring trees.

CTC434_SU_Sample

I may have gone out on a limb here (pun intended!), as I chose the project above with the Koala in the fork of a tree for my inspiration. It was the layout that took my eye.

Stampin' Up! Joy to You & A Walk In The Forest DSP | Judy May, Just Judy Designs
My finished card is very different from the sample, but hopefully you can see the key elements of the layout there. I started by adding the Pretty Peacock berry design from the new A Walk in the Forest Designer Paper to the front of a Basic White card base.

Stampin' Up! Joy to You & A Walk In The Forest DSP | Judy May, Just Judy Designs
For the focus panel I have the large greeting from the Joy To You stamp set that I masked with a sticky note and stamped each section separately with the Stamparatus, before cropping with a die from the Scalloped Contours Dies. The sample card has a piece of vellum behind the focus panel, but I have used a piece of Real Red card stock, dry embossed with the cross-hatch design to highlight the greeting and make the berries pop.

I added a gold bow at the top with the (retired) Gold Shimmer Ribbon and the stamped and coloured holly at the bottom. A trio of Rhinestones coloured with the Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends finishes the holly.

For the inside I have a Real Red mat for the writing panel and  a strip of the floral print at the bottom. I've stamped the pine branch and berries from the Christmas Classics stamp set in the corner to mirror the paper.

Heart of Christmas - Night Divine

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

This week I've had a play with 2 new products - the Patchwork Pieces Dies and the O Holy Night Suite. The Patchwork Pieces Dies are in the Annual Catalogue, but they are new in door for me.

Stampin' Up! Stars at Night Bundle | Judy May, Just Judy Designs
I created the background for the beautiful embossed star with the Night of Navy Soft Shimmer Paper and the vanilla and gold design from the Shining Brightly Specialty DSP. I used the Patchwork Pieces Die to cut one from each colour and them put them back together in an alternating pattern on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, which I then added to a layer of Gold Foil. It was very challenging to photograph the card, but there is a lot of shine and sparkle in real life.

I hope you can see in this photo, more of the lovely sparkle of the Shimmer Paper. I used the Stars at Night Hybrid Embossing Folder to emboss and die cut the large star from Gold Foil, in one pass. It is beautifully detailed, so I decided not to layer over it too much, just adding the long, slim star cut from the Night of Navy Shimmer paper. To finish, I added the larger of the stars from the Adhesive-Back Star Trinkets that work perfectly for the centre. The greeting from the Night Divine stamp set was stamped at the base of the Very Vanilla card base before the art panel was adhered with Adhesive Foam Strips for a firm finish.

For the inside, I have a mat of Night of Navy Shimmer Paper for the writing panel (I did cut out the centre!), with a strip of the Night of Navy gold star design from the Shining Brightly Specialty DSP at the base. In the top corner I have one of the smaller stars in navy and the small gold star trinket adhered in the centre. The greeting from the Brightest Glow stamp set compliments the 'joy and peace' on the front.

CASE-ing the Catty - Step It Up!

Hi there

Welcome to CASE-ing the Catty this week.

This week our mission is to choose a project from the 2023-24 Annual Catalogue and 'step it up'. Our banner pic is a great example of how you can 'step up' a project by adding additional layers, details and embellishments.

CTC433_SU_Sample

I chose the project in the photo above from page 29 of the 2023-24 Annual Catalogue for my inspiration. I'm not keen on the colour choices the designer made, but I looked past that to the layout, which is simple and flexible.

I chose another pretty floral design from the new Garden Walk paper pack that is in the forthcoming Mini Catalogue, commencing on 6 September. The colours in it are Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade, Wild Wheat, Pretty Peacock and the background is a lighter shade of Lost Lagoon.  I covered two-thirds of a card front sized piece of Calypso Coral with the floral design and the remainder with the striped vellum from the Vellum Basics Specialty DSP with a narrow border of Calypso Coral separating them. The vellum tones down the Calypso Coral and allows me to use it for other accents on the card.

For the focus panel I have used the stitched and scalloped rectangle from the Scalloped Contours Dies for some pretty detail and stamped the greeting from the Layering Leaves stamp set on the left  in Calypso Coral ink. This is such a flexible greeting as it could be used for celebrating pretty much any occasion and the font is lovely, too.

On the right I have the jug from the So Refreshing Dies cropped from the Pretty Peacock spotted print and I cropped another from Pretty Peacock cardstock and adhered them together to make it more robust. I added some Basic White and Lost Lagoon foliage to the jug, using the Textured Floral Dies. The jug die cuts the slit for you to poke the foliage through, for a realistic look.  I adhered the jug flat, leaving the handle free for extra dimension. At the base of the jug is a little group of flowers in stamped-off Calypso Coral ink. The flowers are from the Two-Tone Flora stamp set and are very similiar to the style in the floral print. I added a little bow in white Baker's Twine behind them and finished with silver pearls in the centres. The focus panel was popped up on 1mm foam pads, to even out the height. The Calypso Coral panel was adhered to a Thick Basic White card base.

For the inside I have a Calypso Coral Mat for the writing panel and on the right a strip of the floral print with a narrow border of Calypso Coral to mirror the front. The greeting from the Artistically Inked set was stamped in Pretty Peacock ink.

Heart of Christmas - Joy of Noel

Blog_Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of Heart of Christmas. Each week, the talented ladies from the Art with Heart team will  bring you inspiration for your holiday craft projects.

This week I've used 3 new products that arrived in my pre-order from the new 2023 September-December Mini Catalogue. If you are a customer of mine, you should be receiving your complimentary copy of the catalogue in the post very soon.

Stampin' Up! Joy of Noel Bundle | Judy May, Just Judy Designs
A wreath is one of my favourite Christmas images, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use the curved spray from the new Joy of Noel stamp set to create this card. I stamped 5 of the curved sprays in Shaded Spruce and coloured them with Stampin' Blends before cropping with the coordinating die. I layered up the sprays into a circle. I did try 4 first, but 5 works better for a nice round wreath.

The wreath was popped up on a square panel of Pool Party card stock that I dry embossed with the cross-hatch design and added to a Basic White mat. Once I had the centre panel done, I could cut the square card base from Thick Basic White. I added the vibrant Shaded Spruce mottled print from the Joy of Christmas Designer Series Paper to the card base and used Adhesive Foam Strips to adhere the art panel.

The greeting is from another new stamp set, Wishes All Around, stamped on a Basic White strip in Real Red ink with the ends flagged and popped up on the wreath. I finished with a Real Red bow and gold pearls on the greeting.  The finished card is 13.5cm ( 5 5/16”) square. This is a very dimensional card!

For the inside, I have a mat of Pool Party for the writing panel and I stamped the spray in the corner and coloured it. At the bottom I added a strip of Real Red ribbon that was sitting in my ribbon box.
