This week we are taking inspiration from the Love, Thanks & Support section of the 2023-24 Annual Catalogue.

CTC424_SU_Sample

I had the Countryside Corners Bundle on my craft desk, so I chose the project in the photo above for my inspiration. As you can see, it is a gift bag, but I went with a card instead.

Stampin' Up! Countryside Corners Bundle & Lasting Joy | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I started by embossing a card-sized panel of Boho Blue card stock with the pretty Countryside Blossoms Embossing Folder and adhered it to the white card base. I decided to frame my art panel instead of placing the patterned paper behind it, so I heat embossed the single Countryside Corners stamp in white on Night of Navy card stock and used the second and third largest of the Countryside Corners Dies to crop the frame and adhered it flat to the embossed card front.

The art panel was cropped with the fourth largest of the Countryside Corners dies to fit within the frame. I stamped the small flower spray in the corners using images from the Lasting Joy stamp set in Misty Moonlight and Crumb Cake ink. The designs in this set coordinate with the Countryside Blossoms embossing folder. The larger flowers and leaves were stamped in Balmy Blue and Crumb Cake ink respectively and then fussy cut. I've used small banners cropped from Pecan Pie card stock instead of the ribbon to create the tails at the bottom. The art panel was popped up in the centre of the frame with Dimensionals and the flowers and leaves positioned in the corners. The greeting from the Wonderful Thoughts set is stamped in Night of Navy ink and cropped with the coordinating die and popped up in the centre. To finish, I added Irridescent Pastel Gems to the large flowers and a tiny Brushed Brass Butterfly.

For the inside, I have a Boho Blue mat for the writing panel. The flower spray was stamped in the top corner and I added a strip of the cute little flower border from the Countryside Inn DSP at the bottom. I had 2 fussy cut flowers left and popped them into the border.

Fabulous Paper Florist Dies

Hi there

Have you checked out all of the standalone dies in the new 2023-24 Annual Catalogue? They are sets of dies that are not associated with a stamp set, so they can be hard to spot in the body of the catalogue. You find them in the Detailed Die Cuts section of the catalogue that starts on page 161.

Today, I want to focus on the Paper Florist Dies on page 165. There are 18 dies in the set and they allow you to construct some lovely dimensional flowers that are perfect for embellishing cards or scrapbook pages. You can see them in the photo below.  Click on the image to go to my Online Store for more details.

I was inspired by lovely cards made by Yvonne Spikmans (The Creative Teacup from the Netherlands) to get them out and have a play and create my version.

Stampin' Up! Paper Florist Dies | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I started with a piece of Basic White a little smaller than the card front and used one of the masks from the Foursquare pack (on page 136 of the Annual Catalogue) and a blending brush to create a background for the flowers. I really like this particular mask as it adds a small amount of colour and isn't overwhelming. I always use a separate panel in case I don't like the result and I can turn it over and try again! Plus,  you add another layer of interest to the card, when you adhere it to the base.

Of the round petal flowers, there is one large in Gorgeous Grape and two smaller ones in Highland Heather and Daffodil Delight. These flowers use the die in the bottom left corner (marked in green). You get two large and two smaller flower sets with each die cut. You can layer all 4 pieces or as I have done, use 2 of the same size and offset them for a nice full flower. There are lots of options for the centres and I used the large stamens and popped up the pierced circle over the top for the Gorgeous Grape flower. For the Daffodil Delight flower, I offset 2 of the star shape centres that are shown lower right on the photo of the dies (marked in purple).

The daisy is created with the die at the top left in the photo (marked in blue). Again, you get 2 larger and 2 smaller sets of petals. I used 3 sets of petals for the larger flower and 2 sets for the smaller daisy. I like to use my bone folder to slightly curl the petals on all the flowers before adhering the layers together as it adds a lovely dimension to them.

The last flower is the sweet trio of buds. The stems are in the centre at the top of the dies photo and the bud tips are a single die that cuts the 3 of them shown in the centre (both marked in orange). I added a little colour with the blending brush on each set of tips. My suggestion for constructing these is to put a little dot of glue on the reverse of the bud bases and then pick up each of the tips, holding each one for a few seconds to adhere.

Once your flowers are constructed it is time to layer it all up with the foliage. I used Granny Apple Green and Garden Green for the leaves to contrast with the Mossy Meadow of the bud stems. The stitched detail in the leaves is lovely. The fussy cut greeting in Gorgeous Grape is from the Go To Greetings stamp set. I finished with 3 yellow Loose Frosted Dots for some pop.

For the inside, I have a Highland Heather mat for the writing panel and I added some detail with the mask and blending brush in the corner. The smaller leftover Gorgeous Grape flower was adhered over the top.

The Paper Florist Dies are fun to work with and I'm sure you will love them, too. You will never be lost for a lovely floral embellishment, with these dies!

Hi there

This week we are taking inspiration from the colours in the Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper. It includes all 5 of the new 2023-25 In Colors and Pretty Peacock as you can see below.

CTC423_Daisy_Colours_2

There are some really bold colour combinations in this paper, but I decided to go low key and chose my favourite sheet from the pack that contains just 3 colours - Boho Blue, Copper Clay and white. Blue and brown has always been one of my favourite colour combos and it is ages since I've used it.

Stampin' Up! Fresh as a Daisy DSP | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I love the handpainted look of the white daisies on the gorgeous blue background in this design. So I could get the most out of the sheet, I cut a piece from the bottom of the panel (already cut to 6" x 12") to just above the tallest daisy (about 3 1/4") and then from the top of the same sheet (reverse side) I have cut the strip of Copper Clay. I adhered both pieces to a card base size piece of Basic White. I do this when using ribbon and twine, so I can wrap it around neatly without showing anything inside the card.  A strip of the 3/8" Textured Ribbon in Boho Blue covers the join and I've wrapped white Baker's Twine over the top and finished with the bow on right.  I had already decided to use the label die with the rounded corners from the Nested Essentials Dies, so decided to follow that through on the corners of the card base too, using the Very Best Trio Punch. This punch isn't in the 2023-24 Annual Catalogue, but you can find it with other carryover items in the Online Exclusives section of the Online Store. It is much easier to round the corners of each layer separately. The finished background was adhered to the Thick Basic White card base.

I stamped the greeting from the Layering Leaves stamp set in Versamark on the Boho Blue label and then heat set it with white embossing powder. To give it a lift against the blue background I offset another label cut from Basic White on the left. The white daisy was created with the Paper Florist Dies, using 3 layers off set to give a nice full shape. I used the bone folder on each layer to add some dimension and finished with the Copper Clay centre popped upon a Dimensional. Tucked under the daisy are sprigs of foliage cropped with the Timeless Arrangements Dies from Copper Clay Luster Specialty Paper.  It has a lovely sheen on it and comes in all 5 of the 2023-25 In Colors. You can find it on page 127 of the Annual Catalogue. I finished with a trio of Brushed Brass Butterflies.

For the inside, I have a Boho Blue mat for the writing panel with the rounded corners at the bottom. I have added another daisy that has a soft blending of Boho Blue ink and the Copper Clay centre. I've tucked in some more foliage around the daisy and finished with a small Brushed Brass Butterfly.

This week we are taking inspiration from the Bundles listed on pages 155-160 of the new 2023-24 Annual Catalogue. I always make a point of looking at the Bundles pages as you get another sample project and a better look at the coordinating dies and it can be easy to miss things in the body of the catalogue. There are some great new bundles in this year's catalogue, but if you don't have them yet, no problems; CASE-ing is about taking inspiration from the colours, layout, technique or type of product used in a project. It's about what inspires you to create your own project. CTC422_SU_Sample

I love the eyelet border die in the Darling Details Dies that allows you to thread ribbon (or card stock) for the broderie anglaise look, which seems to be making a bit of a comeback in clothes as well. Plus, the two lovely frame dies in the same style, which can be used as is, or cut into pieces for borders or trims under sentiments etc. There are also 22 stamps in the  coordinating Darling Details stamp set, so lots of possibilies .

Stampin' Up! Darling Details Bundle | Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I started with the Bubble Bath card base and cut the border separately from Bubble Bath cardstock. I threaded two rows of the Sweet Sorbet 1/8" Metallic Woven Ribbon through the ribbon slot. This ribbon is much closer in colour to Berry Burst, so it works well with Bubble Bath. At the top I added a piece of the Bubble Bath designer paper from the Bright & Beautiful 6" x 6" DSP pack.

Stampin' Up! Darling Details Bundle | Judy May, Just Judy Designs
I stamped the flowers in Fresh Freesia and Berry Burst ink and added the detail layer with Versamark ink and heat set with white embossing powder. Although not apparent in the photo, it adds another layer of texture to the card. The stamped foliage is in Granny Apple Green and Garden Green and the detailed die cut foliage in Garden Green. Once all the pieces were stamped and die cut it was a matter of layering them as desired. The large Berry Burst flower is popped up on Dimensionals.  I wasn't happy with my original plan for the sentiment and decided to stamp the birthday greeting directly onto the background paper and then added the fussy cut 'friend' at the bottom right.  I finished with 3 Daffodil Delight Glossy Dots as a contrast to the pink.
