This week we are CASE-ing an embossing folder project from the 2020 August-December Mini Catalogue.  I love embossing folders as they are a quick and easy way to add interest and texture to your projects.

I chose the design in the photo above for my inspiration this week. It ticked a few boxes for me, including using the lovely Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder that hasn't seen the light of day for a while.

I have stayed close to the layout just adding a few extra touches. I started with a Crumb Cake card base and then dry embossed a card front sized panel with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder and adhered it to the front. I like to do this as I find the front of the card can warp a bit when embossed with the deeply etched 3D folders. I adhered the pine cone design from the Poinsettia Place Designer Paper pack to a piece of the Brushed Gold Metallic Card Stock for a bit of added bling and then popped up the panel on the card base.

Another reason this sample ticked a box for me was that the hard work was done by the designer paper. I have die cut the large Poinsettia flower and the red berry spray directly from sheets of the designer paper. I roughly cut out the large flower from the sheet and adhered it to some Whisper White before die cutting. This gives it some added body when I popped it up. I also fussy cut the centre from another partial flower on the sheet and popped it up in the centre, offsetting the petals. This adds some lovely dimension to the card. The leaves are die cut and embossed in one action from Garden Green card stock and I sponged the edges in Shaded Spruce ink for a nice contrast. The foliage sprays have been die cut from the Brass Brushed Metallic Card Stock for a bit more bling and adds a nice contrast to the gold of the mat. The greeting from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set was heat embossed in white on Real Red card stock and cropped to size with a Stitched Rectangle Die. I finished with a trio of Gold Glitter Enamel Dots.

For the inside, I have a Real Red mat for the writing panel. I fussy cut one of the Poinsettia flowers from the edge of the designer paper that was cut off and adhered it to the top right corner. This is a good way to use partial images that you may not normally use. I finished with a strip of the Garden Green foliage design at the base.

This view of the card, shows the design of the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder nicely.

Great card. I love how the gold layer behind the DSP has really made it pop.

Amazing card and not only have you featured embossing folders, you've stepped it up!

Your card is so pretty, Judy! And thrifty - I love how you've used the two different partial flowers from the DSP to enhance your card design. Stunning!

Julia Quinn

The gold foil really makes this card sing!! Totally brilliant and wonderful.
