2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty challenge!

If you've come from visiting Monique, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

CTC273_Patterns_Colours

This week we're taking inspiration from the colours in the Playing with Patterns Designer Series Paper. This is a 6" x 6" paper pack with lots of fun designs that are perfect for backgrounds and stamping on. You can see some of the designs in the photo below.

CTC273_PWP_DSP
There are 5 colours plus white in the designer paper and you can see them below.

CTC273_Playing_Patterns_Colours
I've chosen to use all of the colours except Purple Posy in my card today.

Stampin' Up! Drybrush with Tasteful Touches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I started by creating the background with the new Drybrush background stamp. I added Calyso Coral, Coastal Cabana and Crushed Curry ink over different areas of the stamp and let the image do the rest. I found it was better to let the colours overlap slightly for a natural blending and I was happy with how it turned out. The foam ink pads are quite forgiving, so if you get a bit of foreign ink on the pad, just gently dab it with a tissue to remove it. I added the finished panel to a Night of Navy card base.

For the embellishment, I have a Night of Navy stitched rectangle and I added one of the lovely new labels from the Tasteful Labels Dies. I dry embossed a piece of Thick Whisper White first and then cropped it with the die, which creates a lovely embossed edge around the shape. The feather from the Tasteful Touches stamp set was stamped 3 times in the coordinating colours and then fussy cut. The side feathers are adhered flat and the centre one popped up.  I used the Well Written Dies for the 'friend', cutting 2 and layering them for some extra dimension. The 'hello' is from the (sadly) retired Label Me Bold set, stamped in Calypso Coral and then fussy cut to create a narrow white border.  I'm not sure about the bow, but I felt it needed something to finish off the feathers. I finished with one of the sweet wooden leaves from the In Good Taste Elements.

I have kept the inside simple, with a mat of Coastal Cabana for my writing panel and I've added a strip from the Drybrush background to the right hand side.

I would like to make this card again, in masculine colours.

This week we taking inspiration from the flowers in the new 2020-21 Annual Catalogue and wowee, there are lots of fabulous floral stamp sets and dies to get the creative juices going!

CTC272_SU_Sample

The Peony Garden Suite went straight to the top of my Wish List as soon as I saw it in the new catalogue. The whole product coordination in this suite is amazing! Peonies are such gorgeous flowers and on our trip to Europe in 2018, we visited St. Fagan's Museum in Wales where they have this fabulous garden surrounding the Elizabethan Manor that is part of the museum. There were long beds of peonies of many colours that took my breath away. This is a photo I took at the time, so you can see why the image in the catalogue jumped out at me.

CTC272_Peony_Europe

So this is what I came up with. Nothing can match nature, but I love the detail and shading in the Peony image.

Stampin' Up! - Prized Peony Bundle - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

To create the background, I stamped the greeting from Tasteful Touches stamp set and did a bit of ink blending with Seaside Spray. I also stamped the diamond pattern in Gray Granite before popping the panel into the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder. I adhered the panel to my Seaside Spray card base and layered on the Gray Granite frame, created with the Stitched Rectangles Dies

I stamped the Peony flowers and leaves in Basic Gray ink coloured them with Stampin' Blends; Rococco Rose and So Saffron for the flowers and Granny Apple Green for the leaves. I cropped them with the coordinating dies from the Peony Dies. There is a lot of shading in the flowers, making it easy to colour. I added a trio of the new Elegant Faceted Gems, that are SO sparkly.  There are 2 sizes and 3 colours - clear, white and the colour I've chosen which is a pinky brown colour.

For the inside, I have a mat of Gray Granite for my writing panel. I've used the sweet scalloped border die from the Peony Dies at the base. It isn't very clear, but there is also an embossed scallop as well. In the top corner, I partially stamped the Peony flower again and used the same colours.

This week we have open slather to take our inpsiration from any project in the 2020-21 Annual Catalogue. Woohoo, we don't get let off the leash very often, lol!

CTC271_2_SU_Sample

I didn't get very far into the catalogue before I saw the lovely sample above using the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle on page 13. I think the blue and yellow colour combo (one of my favourites) caught my eye initially. I don't have this bundle, but I decided to go with the layout using other new goodies from the 2020-21 Annual Catalogue. Here is what I came up with.

Stampin' Up! Tasteful Touches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I started with a Thick Whisper White card base and decided to add a layer of the new Misty Moonlight In Color Designer Paper. I chose the woodgrain look for the subtle pattern and adhered it to a layer of Whisper White to give it a bit more body. Next up, I dry embossed a piece of Whisper White with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then cropped it with the largest of the scalloped rectangles from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.  I trimmed off the top and adhered it to the Misty Moonlight panel.

Stampin' Up! Tasteful Touches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I stamped the flower image from the Tasteful Touches stamp set with Basic Gray ink and then coloured them with Seaside Spray Stampin' Blends markers. This is a Disinktive style stamp set, so it has a lot of extra shading in the stamped image and can look a bit intense when stamped in black ink, I think. I used a combination of Gray Granite and So Saffron for the centre of the flowers. The Tasteful Labels Dies that come in a bundle with the Tasteful Touches stamp set are fabulous, but do not crop any of the images in the stamp set. So, I've fussy cut them leaving a tiny white border. I prefer fussy cutting on the line, but with Distinktive stamps it isn't a simple solid line and I think you lose some of the detail in the process.

The foliage has been die cut from Sahara Sand card stock as I wanted to keep any additional colours neutral. I've used the largest leaf spray from the Forever Flourishing Dies and cut it into pieces. It is a large die, so I only needed one. I also have a couple of the small rounded leaf die cuts from the same set, in Misty Moonlight.

The greeting from Itty Bitty Birthdays was heat embossed in white on Misty Moonlight card stock and I've used the new Lovely Labels Pick a Punch to crop the decorative end and also for the white mat it is adhered to. If you haven't noticed this punch in the new Annual Catalogue, it is such a great value tool.

Stampin' Up! Lovely Labels Pick a Punch - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
You can see the punch above on the left, which has 2 sets of slots, for the 2 different styles of edge. The image on the right shows how the shape changes as you move from the smallest width (1/2" or 1.3cm) size to the largest size width (1" or 2.5cm) for each of the 2 styles. How cool is that? I've mixed the 1/2" (1.3cm) design on the left with the 3/4" ( 1.9cm) design on the right for my label. The huge benefit of this tool, is that you can create labels of any length you want. Mine is pretty long, but it doesn't matter now. I recommend that you cut your strips the width required for the punch; punch one end of the strip and then stamp your greeting where you want it to finish. I use the Stamparatus to make sure I have it straight.  In my case, I didn't need to cut the other end as I tucked it under the flowers. If you do, mark on the strip where you want the the end to be and then add 1/4" (6mm) and cut the strip. Pop the end into the punch to cut the decorative edge and it will be the right length.

I layered up all the elements onto the Whisper White label, popping up both flowers at different heights. I finished by wrapping some of the new Misty Moonlight & Silver Bakers's Twine from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack around the top, which was much easier with the firmer base. The finished panel was adhered to the white card base and I finished with some rhinestones.

Stampin' Up! Tasteful Touches - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
For the inside, I have a mat of Misty Moonlight for my writing panel. I've stamped the foliage image from the Tasteful Touches stamp set in Sahara Sand ink in the bottom right corner and added a stamped, coloured and fussy cut flower over the the top.
