CASE-ing the Catty - Inspired by Ornate Garden Week 2

2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty challenge!

If you've come from looking at  Monique's lovely project, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

CTC267_1_BannerThis is week 2 of taking inspiration from the early release  Ornate Garden Suite. This suite is from the forthcoming 2020-21 Annual Catalogue, but you can purchase all of the products in the suite now, either individually or use the single item code #154153 and purchase the entire collection. Check it out now in my online store.

Large images can be quite daunting to work with, when you are cardmaking. By selecting just a portion of the image, you will find it much easier and that is what I have done today. I have used a section of the large floral image from the Ornate Style stamp set and made that the focus of my card. Because the image is large, there are more options for which portion you use, so you can get multiple different looks for your cards. I've also chosen to use a completely different colour combo from the coordinating Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper to show how you can make these products work for you.

Stampin' Up! Ornate Garden Suite - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base and I added a layer of Seaside Spray cut with the largest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I did trim my metric card base to work with this die and the label die from the Ornate Layers set, which I cut from Night of Navy card stock. It isn't necessary, but I do like the symmetry!

I stamped part of the image on a piece of Whisper White and coloured it with Stampin' Blends using Granny Apple Green for the leaves, Balmy Blue for the Forget Me Not flowers and Daffodil Delight with a touch of Mango Melody for the large flower. I left the daisies white, adding a touch of Smoky Slate around the petals to help make them to pop.  You can see in the photo that I have gone around the edge of the image in a very pale grey (Copic N0) to add a little depth. The finished panel was embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Die that fits perfectly into the ornate frame (love that!) and popped up on the Night of Navy ornate frame.

I stamped the greeting from the Dressed To Impress stamp set in Versamark, masking it to just get the 'hello', and heat embossed it in white.  I've fussy cut it and popped it up on foam pads.  A couple of gold Metallic Pearls and a tiny butterfly in Gold Foil finish it off. Normally I would use silver with blue colours, but the gold just added a little extra pop!

For the inside, I have used the largest Stitched Rectangle Die for the Seaside Spray mat and then the next size cut in Whisper White for the writing panel. I stamped and coloured the single daisy flower, also from the Ornate Style stamp set and coloured it with Stampin' Blends in the colours I used for the main image. I added some (retired) Night of Navy Baker's twine around the bottom to finish and adhered it to the  Seaside Spray mat.

Wow Judy, your card is stunning. These colours look so good together. I love that you’ve left the daisies white but added some Smoky Slate around the petals, very effective.

Julia Quinn

I love your use of the white space on your coloured images - even the touches of white on the leaves and coloured flowers. Your card is just glorious.
