Heart of Christmas - Week 15

HoC_Header_2019_Blog
Hi there

Welcome to Week 15 of Heart of Christmas from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This is our penultimate week; I can't believe how quickly that time has gone. I hope we have given you lots of inspiration for your cards this year. It's almost time to starting sending them out!

I'm pretty time poor this week as I'm working on another project, but I managed to come up with a quick card today. When you're in a hurry, designer paper and your die cutting machine are your friend! While we don't have a snowy Christmas, I'm still enjoying the bright and contemporary colours in the Let It Snow Specialty Designer Series Paper. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't do justice to the vibrant Bermuda Bay wreath; I don't think my camera likes green, lol.

I've added some of the Coastal Cabana and Real Red striped paper at the top and bottom and the Real Red spotty design in the centre. At the joins I have a narrow border of Bermuda Bay card stock.  Under the wreath is the greeting banner from the Toile Christmas stamp set. I've stamped it in Bermuda Bay and cropped it with the coordinating die from the Christmas Cardinals Dies. I stamped a second banner and fussy cut the 'Christmas Wishes' section and popped it up over the top.

So the wreath would pop more, I created a Vellum 'wreath' with the Layering Circles dies to go underneath. The wreath from the All-Around Wreath Dies was cut from Bermuda Bay card stock and I ran it through the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder to add some texture. I really like how this looks.  I popped the wreath up on 1mm foam pads and then added my favourite leaping deer from the Detailed Deer Dies, cut from Sparkle Glimmer paper. He is popped up on double Dimensionals. I've finished the wreath with the Real Red flowers (from the same set of dies) with a gold Metallic Pearl in the centre.

All of the new products from the Holiday Catalogue are now available in my Online Store.  If you don't have your own copy of the new Holiday Catalogue yet, then head to my 'Free Catalogues' page (tab at the top of the page) to register your details and I'll pop one in the post for  you.

CASE-ing the Catty - Giving a Layout a Holiday Twist

2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty!

If you've come from looking at the lovely project on Rebecca's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week, we're CASE-ing a layout  from the Annual Catalogue and giving it a holiday twist, using supplies from the Holiday Catalogue.

CTC256_Banner

I was flicking through the Annual Catalogue and didn't get far before I came upon the sample below.

CTC256_SU_Sample

You may remember that I used this sample for inspiration when we CASE-d the Woven Threads Designer Paper  and I created a shaker card. However with my focus on giving it a holiday twist, I thought it would be perfect with a Poinsettia flower. Nothing says Christmas to me, more than having a Poinsettia on my table during holiday season.

Stampin' Up! Wrapped In Plaid Poinsettia - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I've covered the front of my Very Vanilla card base with a design from the Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper. The card base is a little wider than the normal at 11cm to give me the proportions I was looking for. I wanted a strong contrast with the Poinsettia and this designer paper is perfect with the fine gold foil running through the design.  I stamped the greeting from the Dashing Deer stamp set in Early Espresso on a panel of Very Vanilla and attached it behind the Gold Foil embossed Heirloom Frame.  It looked a little bare  at the top, so I stamped the little flourish from the retired Here's To Cheers stamp set in Real Red.

The Poinsettia flower was creating using the small leaf from the Nature's Roots Dies. I embossed and die cut 12 small leaves for the flower in Real Red and 3 in Shaded Spruce for the leaves. There are 7 petals in the bottom layer of the flower and 5 in the top and I sponged them around the edges with Cherry Cobbler ink to add depth. To give them dimension, I placed a metal ruler down the centre and folded them gently on the score line. Then it is matter of attaching them to a small circle of card stock, slightly overlapping the petals. The top layer were adhered into the centre of the base layer and I finished with a large Gold Faceted Gem in the centre.  Before adhering the flower to the corner of the frame, I added the flourish from the Stitched Stars Dies, which I die cut in Gold Foil. I popped the leaves in underneath, once the flower was in position.  The greeting from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set was stamped in Real Red on Very Vanilla and cropped with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangle  Dies.

For the inside I have a Real Red mat for my writing panel and a strip of the left over designer paper at the base. I've stamped the larger of the pine trees from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Shaded Spruce ink on the right, to provide a background for my reindeer.  The reindeer is from the Snow Globe Scenes Dies and I die cut it in Whisper White and used my Stampin' Blends markers to colour him.

I'm really pleased with how this card turned out and it is one of my favourites for this season. As with most things, it looks better in real life. This card will need some extra help to survive the postal system, or one to hand deliver.

Heart of Christmas - Week 14

HoC_Header_2019_Blog
Hi there

Welcome to Week 14 of Heart of Christmas from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team.

I've been wanting to use the lovely silhouette of Santa and his sleigh from the Jolly Seasons Dies for a while. This week I got out my reinkers and Shimmery White paper to create a night sky background.

Stampin' Up! Jolly Seasons Dies - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne

I started with the ground at the bottom of the the piece of Shimmery White paper and then worked upwards with Pretty Peacock, Highland Heather and Night of Navy. Water colour washes aren't my forte, but the 2 things I learned from this card, was to not be afraid of water and wait until it is really dry before passing judgement! I wasn't super happy with the blending, so I spritzed it heavily with water after I had the colour on and it really helped to blend them together. It does take quite a while for the art piece to dry naturally, so you need to be paitent. I stamped the tree from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Mossy Meadow ink at the bottom after I was sure it was dry.

To give it more of a night sky look, I mixed up a few drops of Frost White Shimmer paint and some rubbing alcohol and flicked it onto the piece with a dry aquapainter. You need to be paitent with this process too, so you get a nice fine coverage and not too many blobs. I used my black dimensionals for the first time to pop up Santa and the sleigh on the finished art piece.

I finished with the greeting from Itty Bitty Christmas stamped in Pretty Peacock onto a Whisper White banner, with a narrow banner of Highland Heather underneath. I added a trio of stars from the Snowflake Sequins and a tiny rhinestone coloured with Poppy Parade Blends on the nose of the first reindeer.

Heart of Christmas - Week 13

HoC_Header_2019_Blog
Hi there

Welcome to Week 13 of Heart of Christmas. This week I'm hosting the lovely ladies from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team who are sharing their inspiration for Christmas craft with you.

They say everything old is new again, don't they (well eventually!)? For my card this week, I've reprised a card I made years ago. It has lots of sparkle, texture and dimension and you can make it in lots of different colour ways.

Stampin' Up! Circle Tree Christmas Card - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
This is my circle tree card, which you could make in many colour combos, but I've chosen Pretty Peacock and Pool Party with Red and Silver Glimmer. The card base is Real Red and I stamped the greeting from the So Many Stars set in Pretty Peacock onto a layer of thick Whisper White. To add interest and texture I dry embossed it with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and added the narrow strip of Red Glimmer before adhering it to the card base.

I created a template for my tree shape so I would have a guide to keep me on track. I positioned it on the card and lightly marked the 3 points of the triangle and a small section on the 3 straight edges. Then it is a matter of cutting the circles and placing them into the shape until you are happy with the layout. I dry embossed a piece of Pretty Peacock card stock with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder before punching out the circles. I like the texture and interest of the 'stripes' going in different directions. The large Pool Party circle was punched out of a piece I embossed with the Tin Tile 3D Embossing Folder. I'm sure you can see the myriad of possibilities with this simple design. Some of the circles were adhered flat, some on 1mm foam pads and some on Dimensionals to add more interest and texture. I hope you can see some of that in the photo above.

To finish, I die cut the small open star from the Stitched Stars Dies and added it to the top of the tree with a rolled up glue dot and popped a rhinestone in the centre.

CASE-ing the Catty - CASE a Layout

2019 CTC Banner

Hi there

Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty!

If you've come from looking at the lovely project on Siobhan's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week, we're CASE-ing a layout from page 22 of the Holiday Catalogue.

CTC254_Banner

There are 4 great layouts on page 22 and I chose the card on the bottom left of the photo above, with the cute elves.

Stampin' Up! Holly Jolly Christmas & Let It Snow DSP - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I started with a Real Red card base and added the pretty Coastal Cabana design from the Let It Snow Specialty Designer Series Paper. I had some stamped images of Santa from the Holly Jolly Christmas stamp set on my craft desk and thought it would work well with this layout.  I used the Stitched Rectangles Dies to crop the coloured image and added a narrow border of the red striped designer paper on either side to add some pop.  I die cut the cute stars from the Christmas Layers Dies in Sparkle Glimmer  and placed them under the image on the left and a single star at the bottom on the right. The greeting from the Dashing Deer stamp set was stamped in Real Red, masking the first line and then cropped with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies.

Stampin' Up! Holly Jolly Christmas & Let It Snow DSP - Judy May, Just Judy Designs, Melbourne
I coloured Santa with Stampin' Blends and used a glue pen to add Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the trim on his suit. I've paper pieced the sack with Coastal Cabana gingham in keeping with the colour palette.

For the inside, I have a Coastal Cabana mat for my writing panel and the striped designer paper at the base. The greeting from the Dashing Deer stamp set was stamped in Real Red and I finished with 2 coloured and fussy cut gift boxes in the corner.
