CASE-ing the Catty - 3D Project from Card Layout
August 25, 2019
Hi there
Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty!
If you've come from looking at the lovely project on Sandra's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today! You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.
This week, we're CASE-ing a card layout and turning it into a 3D project. I've often turned a 3D project into a card, but rarely the other way around!
I was flicking through the Annual Catalogue and the card above on page 46 with the butterflies popped out at me. I love all of our purple shades and my Butterfly Gala stamp set hasn't seen much ink lately, so I decided to turn this layout into a gift box.
I started by embossing a panel of Thick Whisper White with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then used the largest of the Stitched Rectangle Dies to create the square background. I had an 'eeek' moment when I opened my Shimmery White Embossing Paste to find it had gone rock hard! If this happens to you, don't despair. Add a small amount of boiled water to the paste and work it with a fork until you get the right consistency and the lumps are gone. I put a small amount onto a Silicone Mat and added a drop of Smoky Slate re-inker to give it a slightly grey tone and used the diamond pattern of the Pattern Party Decortive Masks to add some texture to the background.
I added the folded strip of the Tricolor Ribbon once the paste was dry and then the stitched circle in Purple Posy. The butterflies were stamped in Gorgeous Grape ink and then over stamped with Purple Posy ink for a subtle look. I used the Light Highland Heather Stampin' Blend marker and selectively coloured parts of the butterflies and then punched them out with the Butterfly Duet unch and popped them up. The 'birthday' was die cut from Silver Glimmer Paper using the Well Written Dies and the 'wishes' from the Well Said stamp set in Gorgeous Grape ink onto Highland Heather card stock. I added lots of bling to finsh. The finished art panel was added to a layer of Gorgeus Grape card stock with a narrow border.
I created the box to fit the art panel, so it is 4.5" x 4.5" x 2.75". The bottom uses Purple Posy card stock that I have stamped with another of the butterfly images from the Butterfly Gala stamp set. The stamps were cut apart so I could stamp them separately in Purple Posy ink for a subtle background. I added a liner of Gorgeous Grape card stock to extend the height of box (as I was using A4 card stock that limited the height to 1 3/4") and the lid sits neatly at the top of the Purple Posy section. It also makes the box more robust. I was really happy with the way it turned out, but it is really hard to photograph!

some great tips in this post Judy. And even if it was hard to photograph it still looks amazing. LOVE the liner inside the box- looks uber professional.

Oh I love this box! I totally didn’t even notice this card in the catalogue but I think your box looks even better than the original card. I love the colours on it too.

Wow! This is so pretty. What a gorgeous box you’ve created. The embossing paste adds so much - I love it.
