CASE-ing the Catty - Love, Thanks, Support
July 07, 2019
Hi there
Welcome to another week of CASE-ing the Catty!
If you've come from looking at the lovely project on Siobhan's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today! You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.
This week, we're taking inspiration from the Love, Thanks & Support section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 72-97. There are just so many fabulous samples in this huge section of the catalogue. I'm definitely going to be CASE-ing a few more projects from these pages in the future.
I settled on the card above, using products from the Bird Ballad Suite. The Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper is fabulous for fussy cutting the pretty bird images and I love all of the coordinating colours.
I decided to make my card square, so I could create some extra 'real estate'. As with the sample, I have used Pool Party for my base card and the top layer, which has been die cut with the fabulous Stitched Nested Labels Dies. The leaves were stamped with Pool Party ink before adding a layer of Whisper White behind the aperture, leaving a narrow border. I wanted to bring in some extra colour so I added a wider border of Petal Pink before layering the panel on the 13cm square Pool Party card base.
I knew I was going to pop-up the image, so I adhered it first to some Whisper White before fussy cutting. I chose to cut close to the line as you can then go around the image with a slightly lighter marker (I used a Soft Suede Stampin' Write marker) to cover the white core. Because it can be hard to get into areas such as behind the bird's legs, putting the image on the same colour background (in this case white), means that it is much less noticeable. Where this isn't possible, you maybe able to colour the background like I did for the top flower in the photo. I used a Light Pool Party Stampin' Blend Marker to colour the small area between the flowers. Some of the stems on the flower buds are very narrow, so another trick I use is to leave a little bit of white on each side of the stem and then colour it with the marker.
I used a greeting from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, stamped in Calypso Coral on Petal Pink card stock and cropped with the Classic Label Punch, which mirrors the shape of the aperture. I added a little scallop border in Calypso coral to tie in the Petal Pink mat and flowers. A sprinkle of rhinestones finish it off.
For the inside I have mirrored the Petal Pink mat with the white writing panel. At the base is a strip of the sweet striped designer paper which includes most of the colours in the bird image. On a scrap of designer paper I found the half bird image, which was the perfect colour and conveniently facing in the right direction.

I love the square card and the addition of the petal pink layer and sentiment helps the birds stand out even more and ties the colours together. Beautiful card.

That's a great tip about the fussy cutting - it looks so neat with the same colour background like that. I must try this as I am not a great fussy cutter!! I love your square take on this card, Judy. Just beautiful.

Wow that's beautiful!! I love the tip about using the marker on the edge of the fussy cut edge. I was admiring your cutting skills before I read that! Love the Bird Ballad DSP, it's one of my favourites.
