Hi there

Welcome to our last CASE-ing the Catty blog hop for the year. This week we are taking inspiration from our favourite project from the Holiday Catalogue.

If you've come from Sandra's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

The card above is one that totally jumped out at me when I browsed the Holiday Catalogue for the first time, so it is no wonder that the Dashing Deer bundle has been one of my favourites this year. I love the leaping deer die cut and it looks fabulous cropped in all of the foils and glimmer papers.  If you're still sitting on the fence with this bundle, then you have until 2 January to purchase it as a bundle with the 10% discount. It will be carried over for purchase separately.

I am normally adding layers to my cards, but this time I have simplified it with less layers than the sample. I have gone all coppery, heat embossing the lovely flourish at the top and bottom of my thick Whisper White card base.  I added the strips of Copper Foil under the flourish and then the centre panel that is embossed with the Swirls & Curls embossing folder, using the debossed side.

I did add a scalloped circle of vellum under the  Copper Glimmer deer for 2 reasons. Firstly, it allows the deer to stand out more from the busy background and secondly, it gave me a flat surface so I could pop up the deer on foam pads to add even more dimension. I finished with a cute bow using the lovely copper trimmed vanilla ribbon from the Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack. I always add an 'eye' to my reindeer using a tiny rhinestone coloured with an alcohol marker. The greeting is also heat embossed in copper and popped up.

For the inside I have mat of copper foil for the writing panel and I heat embossed the flourish and the greeting in copper for a really luxe finish.

I had 4 of the Copper Glimmer reindeer sitting on my craft desk, so I now have 4 cards to start off next years Christmas card stash!

IDEAS Gift Packaging & Tags Tutorial Bundle

Hi there

I've been off the air for a bit, primarily because our Internet connection went down for more than a week.  It was very annoying and frustrating and an exercise in patience, waiting for the wheels to turn to get it resolved.

IDEAS-BlogButton_Small
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I've joined a group of international demonstrators to produce a bundle of tutorials each month. Normally, they would be released in the first week of the month, but hey, better late than never. Each month has a theme and this month it is gift packaging and tags.  I will give you a little sneak peek of my project when I  release the bundle, but given I am so late this month, I've decided to show you the full project.

I've made a gift box with the beautiful Joyous Noel designer and coordinating embellishments. It is very sturdy and a generous size (5.5" x 4" x 3") that would hold a heap of chocolates, home made treats, christmas decorations, beauty products, candles and so on.

Here is a close-up of the tag hanging from the Merry Merlot & Copper Reversible ribbon that is tied around the lid.

My tutorial has step by step instructions to make and embellish this lovely gift box. My other project is a set of really cute tags, that are quick and easy to make.   In addition, you will get 8 other detailed, step by step tutorials with ideas for gift packaging and tags. Although these packaging ideas are Christmas focussed, they can of course be easily adapted to other occasions.

There are 3 ways you can get the December 2018 Tutorial Bundle.

CASE-ing the Catty - Colour Combination

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

This week the challenge for the CTC Crew is to CASE a colour combination from the Holiday Catalogue.

If you've come from Sandra's blog, then welcome! If you're visiting me, I appreciate you stopping by today!  You can continue your journey to see the other inspiring creations from the CTC Crew by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

I've enjoyed getting to know all of the new permanent colours that Stampin' Up! added to the Colour Collections this year. Merry Merlot was on my doubtful list, but I've come to really like it as I paired it with the gorgeous Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Paper. However, there is one colour that I haven't yet used to make a card. Yes, you probably guessed from the photo above, it is Soft Sea Foam. The colour combination used in the sample card on page 23 of the Holiday Catalogue is Real Red, Call Me Clover and Soft Sea Foam. I'm also taking the opportunity to use the Poinsettia image from the Peaceful Poinsettia stamp set for the first time.

I inked up the Poinsettia image for the first time in Early Espresso and stamped on Whisper White card stock.  The Poinsettia was coloured with Dark Real Red Stampin' Blends with highlights in Dark Cherry Cobbler and the leaves in Light and Dark Call Me Clover. I decided to trim the panel to fit the width of the Soft Sea Foam card base and then added the greeting underneath in Call Me Clover ink.

The art panel has a very clean look with a large amount of white space, so I wanted to keep the same feel for the finished card. After fiddling around with a few different options, I found that copper works really well with the Soft Sea Foam. I trimmed the edges of the art panel with Copper Foil and added the 'Merry' die cut from Copper Glimmer paper at the top. The 'christmas' was stamped in Call Me Clover ink and cropped with the label from Petals & More Thinlits Dies. I added a clear droplet at each end of the label that was coloured with the Bronze Stampin' Blends marker.

I've added a couple of extra details for interest (cause I couldn't help myself, lol). I stamped the Poinsettia flower again on a piece of scrap Whisper White and coloured the two smallest sets of petals and fussy cut them. The extra set of petals was offset and popped up on foam pads. I used a glue pen to add some Dazzling Diamonds to the white berries.

For the inside I have mat of copper foil for the writing panel and I added some Real Red spotted designer paper at the bottom. The embossed stitching was added above the designer paper using the die from the Stitched Labels Framelits before stamping and colouring the row of holly also from the Peaceful Poinsettia stamp set.

Despite my trepidation, I'm pleased with how the card turned out. The soft background colour really allows the Poinsettia to take centre stage.
