CASE-ing the Catty - Myths & Magic

Hi there

This week the crew from CASE-ing the Catty are taking inspiration from the Myths & Magic section of the Occasions Catalogue on pages 36-43.

You may have come from visiting Kathryn's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

I'm taking my inspiration from the gorgeous card in the photo above. The main image is from the 'Flying Home' stamp set which is a collection of sweet images featuring bird houses, birds and garden critters. I'm also using the same stamp set for my card (a good opportunity to finally get it inked up!), but a different image.

Stampin' Up! Flying Home - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I've kept fairly close to the layout of the sample card, adding a panel of Pear Pizzaz card stock to the Pink Pirouette card base instead of designer paper. For the background,  I've continued the garden theme and covered the Pear Pizzaz panel with the large leaf spray, cut with the die from the 'Petals & More' Thinlits. It gives a very textured tone on tone effect. This is another way to get more use from your dies and create your own unique backgrounds in the process. To make it super easy, I added Adhesive Sheet to the card stock before I cut the leaf sprays, turning them into stickers. I roughly arranged the sprays first and then adhered them to the panel and used my guillotine to trim off the pieces that went over the edge.

The cute bird house hanging from the flowers was coloured with my Stampin' Blends alcohol markers and cropped with the largest of the stitched circle framelits. I added a scallop circle mat in Pink Pirouette to complement my Pink Pirouette card base. The 'hello friend' greeting is from the 'A Good Day' stamp set and I added the sweet little wooden heart at one end and the little fussy cut bird at the other.

For the inside I have a Pear Pizzazz mat for my writing panel with a strip of Daffodil Delight washi at the bottom. In the top corner I have stamped part of the main image again, masking the bird house so I would have just the flowers. I used the same Stampin' Blends to colour the image, adding a soft background of Pool Party that helps to make the flowers pop. The final touch is the cute little (tiny!) fussy cut bee that has been popped up on the way to those tasty flowers!

Wow, the effect of the die cut leaves is truly amazing. I always love your colouring too. And that's pretty impressive fussy cutting. Stunning card.

This is so very pretty, Judy! I love the tone-on-tone background done like that. Such texture and interest without being overwhelming or distracting. Very cool!

You really do wonders with Flying Home. The colouring is perfect, and I love the inside as much as the front.
