The Heart of Christmas - Week 27

HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 27 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team and the last for 2017. I've really enjoyed bringing you inspiration for your holiday projects and it has helped me to get my Christmas card stash built. I managed 18 out of the 27 weeks, so I'm pretty happy with that after being out of action for some time with my knee replacement surgery.

This week is all about scraps - using them up, that is. After my Wednesday ladies made the luxe gift card holders that I showed you last week, I was left with two 5cm strips of the gold and white check designer paper from the 'Year of Cheer' pack. It could easily have been left unused and then forgotten, so I made it my mission to use it up this week. I've made two clean and simple cards in gold and white. You don't need to add too much with the lushness of the gold foil, designer paper, washi and embossing.

I started with a piece of Whisper white and then added the gold check designer paper at the bottom and then moved upwards adding the block of gold embossed trees in the centre and the gold embossed greeting from the 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set at the top. I did something I wouldn't normally do and added the gold and vanilla bow at the bottom, when the rest is gold and white. It all seems to blend harmoniously, though. I layered the panel onto a Gold Foil mat and then popped it up onto the thick Whisper White card base.

For the second card I started with a panel of Whisper White and added a strip of gold and white check DSP to each side. I trimmed the DSP first so that it would have white edges showing on all sides, so it would pop against the gold foil mat. The strip of gold foil in the centre hides the join and I added a white strip embossed with the Quilt Top design. My gold embossed greeting from the 'Snowflake Sentiments' stamp set was die cut with a stitched oval and then popped up on a gold foil scalloped oval. This is a super simple layout that would work with any designer paper teamed with a contrasting colour for quick and easy cards, which is just what we need at this time of the year.

We are having Christmas with my husband's family this year, so I've been enjoying buying bits and pieces to fill these stockings for our nieces. I purchased the stockings and I've used the Large Letters dies to personalise with their names. I bought some sparkly felt and added double-sided interfacing to the reverse and then die cut the letters and ironed them in place.

Santa_Stockings

They cut very crisply and you could personalise lots of items this way, making these dies even more useful. Of course, you could combine them with the Large Numbers dies too.

I hope you can take advantage of the free shipping today; I know I will be !

CASE-ing the Catty - Add a Christmas Twist

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

This week the CTC Crew are adding a Christmas twist to a project from the Annual Catalogue.

You may have come from visiting Monique's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

CTC156_SU_Sample

This week, I'm CASE-ing a project from the Heat Embossing Project Kit on page 16 of the Annual Catalogue. The clean lines of this sample attracted me, so I have kept my card clean and fresh too.  I've changed up the colours, using Emerald Envy for the base card which is a bit brighter and really pops with the Real Red accents (although it looks more like Tranquil Tide in the photos, unfortunately). I've also chosen a square card, which is a favourite of mine.

The wreath image is from the 'Hello Friend' stamp set that coordinates with the Heat Embossing Project kit. I really like all of the elements in this set and it works beautifully for Christmas, too. I chose not to dry emboss the Emerald Envy background as I didn't want to distract from the wreath.

I have used Sahara Sand card stock for the centre panel and stamped the wreath in Emerald Envy ink. It looks darker in the photo, but it is actually quite bright IRL. I simulated the white border in the sample (the panels in the kit are pre-printed) by adding a narrow Whisper White mat and then another panel of Sahara Sand. The 'poinsettias' were stamped in Real Red ink, fussy cut and popped up on a foam pad.  I love the Merry Christmas greeting from the (retired) 'Merry Patterns' stamp set. It is a really great size (ie not too big, lol). I've popped that up too and added a little gold cabochon at each end for a touch of bling. At the top of the wreath is Real Red bow in my favourite (retired) ribbon.

For the inside I have a double mat of Real Red and Emerald Envy for the writing panel. I added a strip of striped washi at the base and the lovely greeting from 'Season Like Christmas' stamped in Emerald Envy ink in the centre. A gold embossed tree at the bottom adds a touch of bling.

Finally, here is a view from the top.

The Heart of Christmas - Week 26

HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 26 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This week I'm sharing a luxe gift card holder. Gift cards have become a very common gift giving option and can be a little underwhelming when it comes to presentation, so dressing them up is essential to make your gift a bit special.

Stampin' Up! Luxe Gift Card Holder - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I have gone with a white and gold colour combo using the 'Year of Cheer' designer paper and Gold Foil to create a really luxurious look. The extra pop of colour comes from the Real Red bow on the front. This gift card holder is a bit like a Tardiis, but takes only one sheet of A4 card stock. I've used Whisper White for the base and added the Gold Foil embossed with the Softly Falling embossing folder to the front.  The label from the 'Labels to Love' stamp set has been embossed in gold and sits in the punched out space and keeps the holder closed.

When you open the cover, you see the panel of beautiful gold and white checked designer paper. I've added a gold Foil Snowflake as a background for the label.

When you fold down the front panel, you see the gift card in its slot and the writing panel for your message immediately below. I've continued the luxe feel with a Gold Foil mat to the writing panel and the swag from 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set has been embossed in gold. The base has been trimmed with the Year of Cheer Specialty washi tape.

This gift card holder fits into a standard envelope and I've embossed the back flap with the 'Oh My Stars' embossing folder for some extra texture.
