The Heart of Christmas - Week 18

HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 18 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This week I decided to have a play with the new 'Winter Wonder' embossing folder from the Holiday Catalogue. Because we have a Summer Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere, there are many who get very 'thingy' when it comes to anything that looks remotely like a snowflake. I love the glorious symmetry of snowflakes and choose to think of them as stars when it comes to Christmas.

This isn't the card I had in my mind when I started, but sometimes you just have to go with and see where it takes you. I started by embossing a square of thick Whisper White with the 'Winter Wonder' embossing folder. It gives a very deeply etched result, so I recommend you spritz the card stock with water first to prevent cracking. I gently tapped a Glue Pad over the embossed design and then sprinkled it with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter for lots of sparkle. While that was drying I punched out a circle of Silver Foil and then layered up the gorgeous detailed stars from the Star of Light Thinlits. The large one is in Pool Party and the smaller one is in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer. I've topped it with a bow in the lovely Silver Metallic ribbon. Once the embossed piece was dry I popped up the finished star embellishment in the centre.

I have added a mat of Pool Party card stock and then another slightly wider one of Silver foil before popping the panel up on a square Real Red card base. You can see more of the detail in the photo above. I stamped the Christmas greeting from Teeny Tiny Sentiments in Real Red and flagged the end and slipped it under the foil circle.

This photo shows the lovely sparkle on the embossed snowflake. For the inside I have a mat of Pool Party under the writing panel and a strip of the narrow silver washi at the bottom. I have used markers to ink up the baubles from 'Carols of Christmas' and stamped the greeting from 'Season Like Christmas' in the centre.

CASE-ing the Catty - Christmas Around the World

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

I'm pleased to be back CASE-ing the Holiday Catty this week. We are looking at the 'Christmas Around the World' suite on pages 28-35.

You may have come from visiting Angela's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week I have chosen to CASE the card that is in the centre of the photo above, with the grey DSP behind it. I quite like the layout and I've made two Christmas cards with it - one very bold and the other much softer. I've broken open my recently arrived 'Christmas Around the World' designer paper to use on both cards.

Stampin' Up! Wise Men from Afar & Christmas Around the World DSP - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I used the bold plaid designer paper on my first card. Plaid is very on trend and there are 2 designs to choose from in the pack. I have added a mat of Lemon Lime Twist that helps to make it really pop. I added a banner in Real Red and I've used the new Everyday Label punch to crop the end as an alternative to the normal flag style. A gold Snowflake sits on the banner and I added a Garden Green circle as a background for my gold embossed kings from the 'Wise Men from Afar' stamp set. The greeting is from the 'Musical Season' stamp set, stamped in Real Red on Very Vanilla card stock. Vanilla seems to work well with the bold plaid.

It was very hard to photograph this card with the reflection from the embossing and the foil doily. This closeup shows the lovely detail in the gold embossed kings.

For the inside I have added a mat of Garden Green and some of the lovely gold washi from the Year of Cheer set at the base of the writing panel. I've stamped the candles from the 'Merry Patterns' host promotion stamp set above that.

Project Details
Stamps  Wise Men from Afar, Merry Patterns, Musical Season
Card stock & Papers      Real Red, Garden Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Very Vanilla, Wild Wasabi, Christmas Around the World DSP
Ink  Real Red, Garden Green, Versamark
Accessories  Foil Snowflakes, Year of Cheer Washi, Metallic Enamel Shapes
Tools      Everyday Label punch, Layering Circles Framelits, Big Shot, Gold EP, Heat Gun, Dimensionals

This is the second version of this layout. I have started with the Basic Grey snowflake design paper from the Christmas Around the World pack and added a mat of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer and then popped the panel up on the Pool Party base card. I took a bit of creative liberty, embossing the greeting at the bottom in white, as I didn't want to take away from the star.

I have added a Pool Party banner cropped with the Everyday Label punch and then embossed with the Christmas Quilt embossing folder. I love symmetry, so I have taken care to position the banner in the embossing folder. The stars have been die cut in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer, Silver Foil and Pool Party card stock and then layered together. The finished star was popped up on the banner and a Clear Faceted gem is the finishing touch.

This closeup shows all the lovely texture and bling on the star.

For the inside, I have added a mat of Silver Foil to my white writing panel for a bit of luxe and a strip of Pool Party washi from the Basics Pack 3 set  at the base.  I wanted to continue the soft feel inside, so I have stamped the star swirl from the 'Star of Light' stamp set in Soft Sky ink and then the greeting  was stamped over the top in Smoky Slate ink.

The Heart of Christmas - Week 17

HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 17 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. I'm glad to be sharing a clean and simple creation with you this week - I've had my first play in the craft room since my knee operation.  There is nothing like new toys arriving to get the creative juices going and I'm using the new 'Merry Patterns' stamp set that is available FREE as a host promotion during September and October. You can see my Current Promotions tab at the top of the page for all the details on how to get this fabulous stamp set for yourself.

Stampin' Up! Merry Patterns for The Heart of Christmas - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I've chosen traditional Christmas colours for my card, with Garden Green for the base and a mat of Silver Foil on top. The white section at the top has been cropped with the scallop border die from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits and I cut a separate one in Garden Green to layer underneath to create a nice contrast with the Real Red holly design paper from the 'Quilted Christmas'  6" x 6" paper stack.

Stampin' Up! Merry Patterns for The Heart of Christmas - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I love the 2-step 'tis the season greeting from the 'Merry Patterns' set. I've used Real Red for the base, which includes the words at the top with the flourish and the outline of 'season'. The fill-in design has been stamped over the top in Garden Green. The close-up photo above shows the 2 colours more clearly.  To keep the holly theme going, I've added one of the sweet Stitched Felt Embellishments to the right.  A strip of Silver Glimmer creates a border, with the lovely 1/8" Real Red Solid Ribbon providing a finishing touch. This ribbon reminds me of Seam Binding and is very easy to work with.

For the inside, I have used the 2-step candles stamp at the base of the writing panel. I stamped the outline first in black and then masked it to stamp the greenery, before adding the patterns to the candles. There is also a stamp for the flames, but I chose to add a touch of colour with markers.

Merry Mice

Hi there

I'm just popping in to let you know that I haven't fallen off the edge of the planet. I underwent a total right knee replacement a bit over a week ago and I'm now home recovering and doing my rehab. The operation all went to plan, but it will be while before I will be fully back to normal with my crafting activities.  It is amazingly limiting using crutches as you can't carry anything and I can't stay sitting in one position for very long.

Anyway, I thought I would share some cards I have made and not blogged. I would like to have been super organised and have posts scheduled, but I was very focused on cooking up a storm so we would have lots of easy, nourishing meals available while I'm not very mobile.

I borrowed the retired 'Merry Mice' stamp set off a friend a while ago and I stamped some of the cute images. This one has been coloured with Copic markers and I added a narrow border of Cherry Cobbler card stock.

Stampin' Up! Merry Mice & Cable Knit Embossing Folder - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The base card is Cherry Cobbler and I've added some of the holly design from the retired 'Presents & Pinecones' DSP at each end and a panel of Crumb Cake embossed with the Cable Knit Dynamic embossing folder in between. A little trim of Gold Glimmer covers the join and a double bow of Cherry Cobbler Baker's twine finishes it off.

Here is a close-up of the finished art panel. For the inside, I have a mat of Emerald Envy and added some of the coordinating Presents & Pinecones washi at the bottom for a simple finish.

The Boxwood Wreaths add a touch dimension at the top and bottom of the art panel, which has been embellished with machine stitching.

Merry_Patterns_Candles

In this second sample, the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Embossing folder provides a great background for a pretty wreath crated with the ferny branch image and when embellished with red enamel dots. The gold Mini Sequin Trim adds some bling under the art panel which has been cropped with the Stitched Shapes framelits.

This last sample combines the patterned deer with the fussy cut letters for the 'tis the season greeting. A little doily trim peeps out of the Lots of Labels die cut which is layered onto some of the Wood Textures Designer paper.
