The Heart of Christmas - Week 7

  HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 7 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This week I'm using one of my other favourite colour combinations - blues with silver. I had a little play with the new 'Carols of Christmas' stamp set and coordinating Card Front Builder Thinlits (that's a bit of a mouthful, lol). This bundle will be available to purchase from 1 August, which is a month in advance of the release of the Holiday Catalogue, just so you can get a head start on your holiday cards. If you join this month as a Demonstrator you will get the 'Carols of Christmas' stamp set in your starter kit as an extra bonus on top of lots of other extra goodies - such a fabulous time to join! Contact me if you are interested in becoming a member of my team.

Now, back to the card. There are so many possibilities with this new bundle, but I wanted to keep it simple. I have inked up the lovely 'peace on earth' greeting in Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Dapper Denim and die cut it with the largest of the Stitched Shapes square to make it the focus of my card.

The background of the art piece is Dapper Denim and I've silver embossed a starry sky using the stamp from the  'Christmas Pines' set. There is a stamp with stars in the 'Carols of Christmas' set, but it looked a bit busy for what I wanted. The trees and deer are just a few of the many dies from the Card Front Builder Thinlits set - so much yet to try out.  I popped up the two trees in front with the deer behind. The single tree is flat and I popped up the deer in front. The panel has a mat of Silver foil for a bit more bling and the whole panel is popped up on the Bermuda Bay card base.

For the inside, I have Dapper Denim mat and I've stamped the lovely greeting from the 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set in the centre in Bermuda Bay ink. The swag underneath is silver embossed for keep the bling factor going! At the bottom I have some Bermuda Bay stripes, topped with the cute Dapper Denim spotted washi from the Basics Pack 3 washi set. Wondering where the Bermuda Bay striped DSP came from? I stamped a panel using the 'Diagonal Stripe' background stamp and then cut off a strip. This will be my go-to option from now on, when I need some stripes.

Finally, here is a view from the top.

CASE-ing the Catty - Thanks!

Hi there

This week we are welcoming new members to the design team - that means more inspiring projects for you to look at! Please make them welcome by leaving them some blog love. This week we are looking at the 'Thanks' section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 126-131. I love sending thank you cards - being grateful is something we can all do to bring happiness to ourselves and others. There is no better way to do that, than with a handmade made card, so I like to have a stash of them.

You may have come from visiting Angela's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post. Angela is one of our new DT members, so welcome Angela, it is great to have you here!

This week, I'm CASE-ing  the card in the photo, which is on page 126.  This layout is great for showcasing our lovely designer paper as well as using up those strips that we have left over from other projects. You can intersperse panels of stamping and embossing for added interest.

Stampin' Up! Whole Lot of Lovely for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I have used the 'Whole Lot of Lovely' designer series paper for my card - the first time I have cut into this lovely set of papers. I went on a journey with this card and it didn't end up where I had imagined, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow. The borders of Tranquil Tide card stock between the designs frames them and gives the card a more graphic look than the sample. I added one of the wooden heart elements and a Powder Pink Bitty Bow for the embellishments. With all the colour and patterns, I don't think it needs anything more.

You can see the embellishment better in this closeup. I cut a panel of Whisper White and adhered the strips and borders on to it and then trimmed it and mounted it onto the Powder Pink base card with foam pads. I think it makes for a neater result.

For the inside, I have a Pool Party mat and a some of the cute striped Daffodil Delight washi from the Basics Pack 2 set at the bottom. I then used one of the elements from the 'Eclectic Layers' Thinlits to emboss the leaves at the bottom. The flower image is from the coordinating 'Oh So Eclectic' stamp set which has been coloured with Copics, die cut and adhered over the top.

The Heart of Christmas - Week 6

HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 6 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This has been a topsy-turvy week and the card I have to share with you was originally made for Sunday's CASE-ing the Catty 'Holidays' section. However, before I could take the photos and finalise the post I had an unexpected stay in hospital and it didn't happen.  It is now Tuesday and I'm thankfully back home resting and able to write this post and share the Christmas card I made.

As you would expect then, my card is inspired by one in the new Annual Catalogue (top of page 112), but I've changed it up from a snowy looking daytime scene to a night sky with lots of sparkly bling. I generally pair black and gold with white, but this time I've gone with Vanilla. I like the soft and elegant feel it lends to my card.

To start, I cut the top frame in thick Very Vanilla using the largest of the square framelits from the Layering Squares. The black background was cut the same size as the top frame and I stamped the stars from the 'Christmas Pines' set  in Versamark and then embossed them in gold. I added 1/8" foam strips around the edge of the black background and then arranged 3 die cut ovals from the Stitched Shapes Framelits in Gold Glimmer, Gold Foil and Very Vanilla within the frame, to create the hills. The tree from the 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set was stamped multiple times in Garden Green onto Wild Wasabi card stock and then fussy cut. I played around with the positioning of the trees; some are popped up and others popped behind the hills. I added more of the foam strips around the inside edges of the opening on the Vanilla frame so that it has the look of a shadow box and stays firm and doesn't collapse. You can see more of the details in this closeup.

HoC6_Hills_Closeup

Once the shadow box was finished, I added the lovely vanilla and gold Metallic-Edge ribbon and then mounted the panel on the Gold Foil covered Very Vanilla base card.  The greeting on the front is from the 'Star of Light' stamp set and I heat embossed it in gold, added a frame of  Gold Foil and mounted it to the front of the card. I added some small gold metallic enamel dots to finish the greeting label and a gold star to the tree at the front.

For the inside I have gold embossed the greeting from the 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set in the centre. At the base I have stamped a tree directly onto the writing panel before adding more of the vanilla and gold Metallic-Edge ribbon and popping up a stamped and fussy cut tree nearby.

Finally, here is a view from the top, but it doesn't do the gold bling justice.
