CASE-ing the Catty - Everyday Occasions

Hi there

This week the CTC Crew are taking another look at the Everyday Occasions section of the Annual Catalogue. I'm so glad we have another opportunity to look at this section, as there are so many inspiring samples in it.

You may have come from visiting Monique's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

I have been wanting to CASE the card in the photo above, since I first saw the new catalogue. The bouquet of flowers in the jar is so fresh and pretty and I like the Crumb Cake background for a change.

Having said I liked the Crumb Cake background on the sample card, I have used Sahara Sand for my base card and the centre art piece. It just seemed to work better with the Melon Mambo flowers and border that I had chosen. I like the effect of having a border around the art piece, but keeping the base card the same colour. It adds pop, but has continuity as well. I offset my jar slightly to the left to balance my circular greeting on the right. It has been a while since we have had a circular greeting like this and it is such a flexible one, suitable for many occasions. It comes from the 'Hello Friend' stamp set.

I have stamped the larger detailed leaf spray twice, directly onto the art piece using Wild Wasabi ink. The larger two-step flowers were stamped in Melon Mambo with the highlight also in Melon Mambo to give a subtle shading. The smaller flowers were stamped in Daffodil Delight ink and the highlights in Crushed Curry ink. The smaller leaf sprays were stamped in Garden Green ink and together with the flowers were cropped with the coordinating 'Everyday Jars' framelits. Some of the flowers are attached flat and some are popped up to add dimension and I've chosen not to stick down the tops of the die cut leaf sprays to give a 3D feel. Finally, the jar is embellished with the cute gingham bow in Night of Navy. I recommend having a bottle of 'Fray Stoppa' in your craft supplies, so that you can use it on the tails of your bows. It gives them a nice firm finish and prevents fraying.

For the inside, I have a coordinating Melon Mambo border and two strips of washi from Basics Pack 1 and 2 at the bottom. In the top right corner I've stamped the group of flowers from the 'Birthday Blossoms' stamp set and the birthday greeting in the centre is also from the same set.

The Heart of Christmas - Week 9

  HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 9 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. I have a used an oldie, but goodie on my card this week. The 'Lovely as a Tree' stamp set is not a Christmas stamp set per se, but the lovely pine tree image is perfect as a Christmas tree.

Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree for The Heart of Christmas - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The base card is Garden Green and I have layered the Cherry Cobbler designer paper from the 'Be Merry' pack onto Gold Foil. I have used the largest of the 'Lots of Labels' die cuts as the basis for my stamping and I did make it slightly narrower so it was more in proportion to the tree. I inked up the tree in Garden Green and then used the Early Espresso marker to change the colour of the stem.

To decorate the tree, I used the 1/8" circle punch to cut baubles from Red Glimmer paper and die cut the star from Gold Glimmer paper and popped it up. I stamped the greeting from the 'Santa's Sleigh' stamp set onto Crumb Cake card stock and cut it out with the Lots of Labels die and adhered it to the bottom of the art piece. I added a narrow strip of Cherry Cobbler above the Crumb Cake and finished it with a small gold bow.

For the inside, I have stamped the cute baubles from the new 'Carols of Christmas' stamp set using markers directly to the rubber. At the bottom I have a strip of the Cherry Cobbler designer paper and the cute spotted Garden Green washi to top it off.

Finally, here is a view from the top.

CASE-ing the Catty - Holidays

Hi there

This week the CTC Crew are looking at the 'Holidays' section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 112-125. It is perfect timing as we are close to the 25th for Christmas in July. This may sound terrible for those in the northern hemisphere in the middle of summer, but perfect for us 'down under' experiencing a very cold winter. We will be taking the opportunity to enjoy a traditional roast dinner with trimmings this week.

You may have come from visiting Angela's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week, I'm CASE-ing  the card in the photo above, which is on page 118.  I have flipped the design to make it into a portrait style card and used one of my favourite Christmas colour combos of Real Red, Crumb Cake and white. I hope you can see the elements from the sample that I have translated to my card in a slightly different way.

I have used the 'Diagonal Stripe' background stamp to create the striped panel with Crumb Cake ink. I added a mat of Real Red and adhered it to my Crumb Cake card base. I have replaced the rectangular centre panel in the sample with a large Stitched Shapes oval  in Crumb Cake layered on a scalloped oval in Real Red. This forms the background for my popped-up Santa from the 'Cookie-Cutter Christmas' stamp set. I've used some of the retired Stitched Satin ribbon in Real Red behind the oval centrepiece and a gold bow at the top.

To keep with the brownish tones, I stamped Santa in Memento Espresso Truffle ink and coloured him with Copic markers, using warm greys for his gloves, boots and belt. I added some sparkle to the white trim on his suit with Dazzling Diamonds glitter, although it sparkles a lot more in real life.

The Heart of Christmas - Week 8

  HoC_Header

Hi there

Welcome to week 8 of Christmas inspiration from the Art with Heart Stampin' Up! team. This week I have a bold and contemporary design for you in black, gold and white.  I have taken apart one of the luscious Striped Treat Bags in gold and white and used it as designer paper. You can get 4 panels out of each treat bag. I heat embossed some stars on the right side of the black panel and added the striped paper to the left side.

The reindeer from Santa's Sleigh Thinlits has been die cut from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer and then popped up onto the gold foil stitched oval. The greeting from the 'Star of Light' stamp set has been gold embossed and matted on black. I added two flat back gold cabochons to the greeting and a gold bow is the finishing touch on the reindeer.

For the inside, I have gold embossed the greeting from the 'Merry Mistletoe' stamp set in the centre and added a strip of the retired Winter Wonderland gold and white striped washi at the bottom, as it matched so well.

CASE-ing the Catty - Artistic Expression

Hi there

I hope you enjoyed all the extra inspiration from our new crew members last week.  This week we are looking at the 'Artistic Expression' section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 132-181.

You may have come from visiting Sandra's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post. Sandra is one of our new DT members, so welcome Sandra, it is great to have you here!

     CTC137_SU_Sample

It was a hard choice to make this week, as there were a few projects I wanted to CASE. However, I settled on the one above, as it is the sample that enticed me to purchase the 'Bunch of Blossoms' stamp set and the coordinating punch. I saw this sample when we first received the new catalogue and managed to buy the bundle before it retired. I really enjoy colouring and I love the dimension and texture you get from  a 3D flower on your project.  As you can see you don't need to add much to get a 'wow' effect.

Stampin' Up! Bunch of Blossoms for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I have used Shimmery White card stock for the background and for the flowers. The background is a light wash of Soft Sky ink, which shows paler than it is in the photos. The sun was streaming into my craft room when I took these photos, so it has washed out the background a bit.  I chose to stamp and punch out all the petals and stamens and then did the colouring and then the construction. I ended up with 4 flowers in different colours, but still have 2 to finish constructing.

I constructed the flowers in 2 layers; the large petals were attached with glue dots to a 1" circle and the smaller ones attached with glue dots to a 3/4" circle and then joined together with a foam pad. The centres were offset and joined with a glue dot and then added to the centre of the flower. I finished with a small Clear Faceted Gem in the centre. The large leaves were coloured with Old Olive ink and then fussy cut. The smaller leaves can be punched out.

I've chosen to highlight the art piece with a black mat and added some Linen Thread at the top and before popping it up on the coordinating base card. This one is Berry Burst and the other is Calypso Coral. You can see some of the sparkle in the flower from the Shimmery White card stock in this close-up.

CTC137_BB_Inside

For the inside, I have a black mat and some washi from Basics Pack 1 at the bottom. The flowers are actually Flirty Flamingo, but they work well with the lighter Berry Burst in the flower.
