CASE-ing the Catty - More Sale-a-bration

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

I hope you are enjoying the lovely products in the Sale-a-bration promotion as much as I am. This week the CTC Crew are CASE-ing projects from pages 4 -7 of the Sale-a-bration brochure.

You too can get your hands on FREE goodies from the Sale-a-bration Catalogue by spending $90 (before shipping) on products from any of the current Stampin' Up! catalogues. There is a super range of options to choose from, including stamp sets, designer paper, embellishments and a card kit.  If you don't yet have an Occasions or Sale-a-bration catalogue, you can leave your details here and I will pop one in the post for you.

You may have come from looking at the lovely creation on Julia's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

The project I have chosen to CASE this week is the card on the right in the photo below. When you see my card, you might wonder about that, lol.  It is amazing where the creative journey can take you, once you get started.

CTC_113_SU_Sample

I was drawn to the layout of this card and how pretty the copper spotted washi looked on the Flirty Flamingo card stock. I've stayed with the Flirty Flamingo card stock and the copper spotted washi, as well as the greeting stamped on vellum, which I've embossed with the gorgeous copper embossing powder. If you haven't tried it yet, then you don't know what you're missing. It is so luscious!

Stampin' Up Sale-a-bration Avant Garden for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I have used the white panel as a background, embossing it with the 'Softly Falling' embossing folder and then wrapping the embossed birthday greeting around it. I've stamped the flower spray onto Whisper White and then die cut it with my favourite 'Stitched Shapes' framelits and coloured just the stem on the image. The flower head was stamped again on another piece of card stock and coloured with Copic markers.  I fussy cut the flower head and popped it up over the main image, which is matted on a copper foil scalloped oval (although it looks more like gold in the photo). You can see it more clearly in this close-up pic.

I've finished my card with a double bow of Baker's twine and a row of Flirty Flamingo enamel dots in the top right corner. Did you notice the colour of the Baker's Twine - isn't it pretty? No, it isn't in the catalogue, but you can easily create your own colour matched Baker's twine by soaking the white twine in a little water and a couple of drops of re-inker.

For the inside, I have replicated the basic layout in reverse and I really like how it turned out. I love the copper washi; can't believe I haven't used it until now.

The second project I have to share is based on this square card on page 6 of the Sale-a-bration catalogue.

CTC113_SU_Sample_2

I love square cards and couldn't pass up the opportunity to use more of the 'Succulent Garden' designer series paper. After cutting into the pack last week for my Petite Cafe Bag project, I thought it would work really well on this layout.

Stampin' Up! Succulent Garden DSP for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The base card is Sweet Sugarplum and the popped up mat is Pool Party. I've used the 2 gingham designs with 2 of the floral designs for the squares and a new Lace Doily layered over a scalloped circle for my centrepiece. I love the new lace doilies and they are so flexible, being white on one side and vanilla on the other. The stitched circle provides a great finishing touch, along with a little row of pearls each side. The finished card is 12cm x 12cm (4.75" x 4.75").

Here is a close-up that shows the lovely lace doily and the layered banner in more detail.

Today I have 3 projects to share with you, using the 'Beautiful You' stamp set. This has been a very popular item from the Occasions Catalogue with it's great set of line images and sentiments for many occasions. It also lends itself to a number of techniques, so you get more ways to use it and love it! The first card is a great one to have in your stash and it would look fabulous in a range of bright colours. Black, white and red is definitely one of my favourites, though.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful You Birthday - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I have stamped the lady in in Basic Black Archival ink and then used the brushstroke stamp over the top in Real Red. You can't get easier than that. The image was cropped with the largest oval from my favourite Stitched Shapes Framelits (now back in stock!) and matted on a scalloped oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits. The greeting was stamped on thick Whisper White and then cropped with the banner framelit from the Cupcake Cutouts set. It has score marks to fold the tails for a lovely 3D effect. I finished with some bling and a cute heart from the Brights Enamel Shapes.  You  can see that I have also decorated the envelope with the heart topiary from the 'Vertical Greetings' stamp set (from the current Annual Catalogue) in the same colours for a coordinating finish.

AWH_Beaut_You_Spots_Inside

For the inside, I have added a strip of the (retired) Candy Cane Lane spotted washi at the bottom and the heart topiary image from the 'Vertical Greetings' stamp set. I used ink pads to colour the heart and pot and then a Stampin' Write marker for the stem.

Project Details
Stamps Beautiful You, Vertical Greetings
Card stock & Papers     Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White, Neutrals DSP Stack
Ink Basic Black Archival, Real Red
Accessories Brights Enamel Shapes, Rhinestones Basic Jewels, Candy Cane Lane Washi (retired)
Tools     Stitched Shapes Framelits, Layering Ovals Framelits, Cupcake Cutouts, Big Shot, Smoky Slate Stampin' Write Marker

The next card I have is a fancy fold called Double 'Z' Joy Fold. I love how special looks, but it is very easy to make.  I have used the image of the dancing lady on this one, which I have coloured with the new Watercolour Pencils and a Blender Pen.

Stampin Up! Beautiful You Double Z Joy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The base layer of the card is Melon Mambo and the top layer is thick Whisper White. I've added the small floral design from the Brights Designer Paper Stack to the inside of the base.  The coloured art piece has been adhered to a Basic Black mat with a trim from the Flourish Thinlits dies on the left edge.  You can see I've also stamped the envelope, using the floral cluster from the 'Birthday Blossoms' stamp set.

Stampin Up! Beautiful You Double Z Joy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

This is the card open, where you can see the other two panels. The middle panel has the leaf die cut from the Flourish Thinlits and the black bird die cut from the Birds & Blooms Thinlits. For the end panel, I have used the brushstroke stamp (stamped off) as a background for the Live, Laugh, Love sentiment.

Stampin Up! Beautiful You Double Z Joy Fold - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The writing panel is on the reverse side of the base and I have used the floral cluster from the 'Birthday Blossoms' set on the corners with the greeting also coming from the same stamp set. I've used the Watercolour Pencils to shade the banner on the greeting and finished with another black bird in the corner. You can get a tutorial for this fancy fold card in my Tutorial Store here.

Ink Melon Mambo, Basic Black Archival
Accessories Rhinestones Basic Jewels
Tools     Flourish Thinlits, Birds & Blooms Thinlits, Big Shot, Watercolour Pencils, Blender Pen

My final project uses the image of the lady with the umbrella and the paper piecing and reflection techniques. Paper piecing is a great option for any line images as an alternative to colouring. I suggest using paper with a small design for images of this size. I have used the Watercolour Pencils to add a little colour to the umbrella and the reflection.

The base card is Sweet Sugarplum stamped with the leaf from the Sale-a-bration stamp set 'Avant Garden'  in Versamark ink. The art piece has been matted onto Rich Razzleberry card stock with the vanilla Lace Trim on the edge. The greeting has been die cut with the Tags & Labels Framelits and finished with a tiny flower from the (retired) Itty Bitty Shapes Punch pack.

For the inside, I've finished it with a strip of washi from the Playful Palette set and the flower from 'Avant Garden' stamped in Rich Razzleberry.

CASE-ing the Catty - Cupcakes & Carousels

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

Today the CTC Crew are taking inspiration from the 'Cupcake & Carousels' section of the new Occasions Catalogue.

You may have come from looking at the inspiring creation on Jackie's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

It was hard choosing a sample to CASE from this section, so I have 2 projects from the group on page 8.  I'm going through a 'Bermuda Bay' phase at the moment, so the colour combo and the bold sunburst design of the card in front attracted me and I wanted to break open the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment pack.

CTC112_SU_Sample_2

The sample card uses one of the designs from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper stack. I don't have this DSP, so I decided to create my own sunburst using the Sunburst Thinlits dies. I went on a bit of a creative journey to get to my final result. My original idea was to use the Sunburst die cut as a mask and sponge the alternate colour onto the Pool Party card stock. However, once I had finished I decided I actually liked the look of the blotchy mask, so I sponged on more colour to smooth it out a bit.  It is a bit hard to see in the photo, but I added some 'grunge' to the Pool Party background using one of the stamps from 'Timeless Textures' stamp set and then adhered the sun burst over the top and mounted it onto an Early Espresso base card. I really like the extra dimension that this gives to the card.

I have also used one of the gold-trimmed labels from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment kit, but instead of stamping directly on it, I added the Tangerine Tango banner and popped up the greeting that I die cut with the Project Life Framelits. I added the balloon to coordinate with the greeting.

CTC112_Sunburst_Closeup

This closeup photo gives you a better view of the lovely gold-trimmed label and the texture and dimension created by the various elements on the card.  The colours are more intense than the photo shows.

For the inside, I have added a strip of the Early Espresso design from the Moroccan DSP and topped it with the narrow Tangerine Tango washi from the Party Animal set. The smaller balloon from 'Lift Me Up' has been stamped and coloured and then die cut and popped in the top right corner to finish. This card is going to a young man who achieved his chosen university course, so I hope he likes it!

Stamps Lift Me Up, Timeless Textures
Card stock & Papers     Early Espresso, Pool Party, Very Vanilla, thick Whisper White, Moroccan DSP
Ink Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Accessories Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit, Gold flat back pearls (not SU), Party Animal Washi set
Tools     Sunburst Framelits, Up & Away Thinlits, Project Life Framelits, Itty Bitty Banners (retired), Big Shot, Stampin' Write markers, Sponge dauber

My second project is the cafe treat bag just above and to the right of the sunburst card. I have kept the basic layout but have added a scallop circle with one of the lovely new Lace Doilies as the focal point for my greeting.  The designer paper is from the 'Succulent Garden' pack. The Petite Cafe treat bags are great for a range of gifts as well as treats as they have a wide gusset that fits more than you would expect.

CASE-ing the Catty - Sale-a-bration!

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

It's that time of the week again and today the CTC Crew are looking at the Sale-a-bration catalogue for the first time.  Did you know that for every $90 (before shipping) you spend on products from any of the current Stampin' Up! catalogues, you get to choose a FREE product from the Sale-a-bration Catalogue. There is a great range of products to choose from, including stamp sets, designer paper, embellishments and a card kit.  If you don't yet have a Sale-a-bration catalogue, you can leave your details here and I will pop one in the post for you, with the new Occasions Catalogue.

You may have come from looking at the inspiring creation on Jackie's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week we get to CASE anything from the Sale-a-bration catalogue, so I've chosen the 'Tasty Trucks' stamp set on page 12 of the catalogue. This stamp set did not initially appeal to me at all, but then it reminded me of the 'Mr Whippy' ice cream vans that went around our suburban streets when I was teenager. It is a set of 16 photopolymer stamps and apart from the main truck image, it includes lots of sentiments and tiny images to embellish it. This is a really fun set for creating birthday cards for children.

Screen Shot 01-15-17 at 06.18 PM

This is the sample I'm CASE-ing.

CTC111_SU_Sample

I have created a DL sized card (10cm x 21ccm), staying quite close to the layout of the sample, but I've created a slider card. I marked out where I wanted the slider opening to be and then stamped the 2 background trucks. I cut the rectangular opening with a craft knife and ruler. You need the opening to be 1/2" (1.2cm) deep to allow for the washers that the truck sits on to move freely. I stamped the third truck on a separate piece of card stock and fussy cut it after colouring the image. As you can see the truck image is quite detailed, so I opted to colour with Copic markers, but you could use the new water colour pencils, an aqua painter and ink pads or Stampin' Write markers. The colours are brighter in real life.

Stampin' Up! Tasty Trucks for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

The happy birthday was heat embossed in white on a strip of black card stock. To make it easy to position, I added the 1/8" foam strips around the rectangular opening (leaving room for the washer to moving freely) and positioned the greeting underneath so I could get the placement exact. It also ensures that the opening doesn't 'droop' and impede the free movement of the washers. I then placed the 1/8" foam strips on all sides and some smaller strips in between so that the whole panel stays firm and level and then adhered it to the Bermuda Bay base card.

As I wanted the truck to slide and not spin, I used square foam pads between the washers and I found I needed a second set of washers to keep the truck stable so it would slide easily - it's a long wheel base truck, lol.

CTC111_Tasty_Trucks_Inside

For the inside, I have continued the party theme adding some coordinating streamers using the image from the 'Balloon Adventures' stamp set from the Occasions Catalogue.

Project Details
Stamps Tasty Trucks, Balloon Adventures, Birthday Banners
Card stock & Papers     Thick Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight
Ink Memento Tuxedo Black, Versamark, Bermuda Bay
Accessories Brights and Subtles Enamel Shapes, Pop of Pink Washi, 1/8" Foam Strips
Tools     Craft knife, White EP, Heat gun, square foam pads, 3/16" washers, Copic markers.

CASE-ing the Catty - Party Animal

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

Happy New Year!  It is great to be back for a new year with the CTC Crew, bringing you creative inspiration from the brand new Occasions and Sale-a-bration catalogues.  You can now purchase products from the Occasions catalogue and for every $90 you spend (before shipping) you get to choose a FREE product from the Sale-a-bration Catalogue. It's the very best time of the Stampin' Up! year when YOU get the presents!

You may have come from Julia's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

This week we are looking at the 'Party Animal' section of the Occasions Catalogue on pages 4 - 7.  As the title suggests, this section is all about birthdays.  I've taken my inspiration from the group of tags at the bottom of page 4 and in particular the striped tag (3rd from the left) and turned it into a card.

CTC110_SU_Sample

I went looking for this lovely striped paper in the 'Party Animal' DSP pack and couldn't find it. I looked again and then it suddenly twigged that the striped paper in the pack had been 'enhanced' by placing the narrow Tangerine Tango washi tape between alternate coloured stripes. Doesn't it look great? The colours in this designer paper are vibrant and punchy, making it perfect for male birthdays in particular.  However, I wanted to make a girly card, so this is what I came up with.

Stampin' Up! Balloon Adventures & Party Animal for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I started with a thick Whisper White base and then added the Pacific Point designer paper from the 'Party Animal' pack and layered on a strip of the 'enhanced' striped paper down the centre. I've used the same greeting as the tag, inking up the top and bottom words with the Pacific Point ink pad and using the Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write marker for the centre. This was die cut with my favourite Stitched Shapes Framelits and popped onto a scalloped square from the Layering Squares Framelits. The little bow at the top is from the new 'Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits' dies.  This is a fabulous set and I'm looking forward to have more of a play with them.

CTC110_Party_Animal_Closeup

I've added some bling to finish and one of the cute party hat trinkets from the 'Party Animal Embellishments' pack, which you can see better in this close-up.

Stampin' Up! Balloon Adventures & Party Animal for CASE-ing the Catty - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

For the inside, I have added strips from 3 of the Party Animal washi tapes at the bottom, which forms the base for the popped up number. I embossed the number with (retired) Irridescent Ice embossing powder for a bit more bling. The balloon has 2 layers; the bottom being the spotted washi tape cut out with the Balloon Bouquet punch (it is a perfect match) and topped with a die cut from the Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits. I love how all of these elements coordinate so easily!
