CASE-ing the Catty - Cupcakes & Carousels

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

Today the CTC Crew are taking inspiration from the 'Cupcake & Carousels' section of the new Occasions Catalogue.

You may have come from looking at the inspiring creation on Jackie's blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

It was hard choosing a sample to CASE from this section, so I have 2 projects from the group on page 8.  I'm going through a 'Bermuda Bay' phase at the moment, so the colour combo and the bold sunburst design of the card in front attracted me and I wanted to break open the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment pack.

The sample card uses one of the designs from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper stack. I don't have this DSP, so I decided to create my own sunburst using the Sunburst Thinlits dies. I went on a bit of a creative journey to get to my final result. My original idea was to use the Sunburst die cut as a mask and sponge the alternate colour onto the Pool Party card stock. However, once I had finished I decided I actually liked the look of the blotchy mask, so I sponged on more colour to smooth it out a bit.  It is a bit hard to see in the photo, but I added some 'grunge' to the Pool Party background using one of the stamps from 'Timeless Textures' stamp set and then adhered the sun burst over the top and mounted it onto an Early Espresso base card. I really like the extra dimension that this gives to the card.

I have also used one of the gold-trimmed labels from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment kit, but instead of stamping directly on it, I added the Tangerine Tango banner and popped up the greeting that I die cut with the Project Life Framelits. I added the balloon to coordinate with the greeting.

This closeup photo gives you a better view of the lovely gold-trimmed label and the texture and dimension created by the various elements on the card.  The colours are more intense than the photo shows.

For the inside, I have added a strip of the Early Espresso design from the Moroccan DSP and topped it with the narrow Tangerine Tango washi from the Party Animal set. The smaller balloon from 'Lift Me Up' has been stamped and coloured and then die cut and popped in the top right corner to finish. This card is going to a young man who achieved his chosen university course, so I hope he likes it!

My second project is the cafe treat bag just above and to the right of the sunburst card. I have kept the basic layout but have added a scallop circle with one of the lovely new Lace Doilies as the focal point for my greeting.  The designer paper is from the 'Succulent Garden' pack. The Petite Cafe treat bags are great for a range of gifts as well as treats as they have a wide gusset that fits more than you would expect.
