It's Here! Welcome the 2016-17 Annual Catalogue

Quick Makes Class

Hi there

Well it is only a mere couple of days before we usher in the new 2016-17 Annual Catalogue with all the lovely new colours and products. At my last class I wanted to show some 'quick makes' with one of the retiring stamp sets that I have used a lot, as well as a fabulously easy layout for using up your designer paper. I  love making special cards for special occasions, but sometimes you just want a lovely card without spending hours.  These cards fit the bill perfectly.

The first 2 card designs use the 'Bordering Blooms' stamp set.  This is one of those sets that can go unnoticed in the Catalogue, but is fabulous for quick makes. The first card uses the flower border at the top and bottom which is coloured with Stampin' Write markers. This combo is Old Olive, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight.  Being photopolymer it is very easy to line up the stamps visually without a stamp-a-ma-jig.

I had an alternative colour combo for an autumn look of Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry and Pumpkin Pie, shown below. Yet another combo that I found when playing was Old Olive, Rose Red and Pink Pirouette for a softer look. All of these combos go well with the Tempting Turquoise base card and the bold birthday greeting from the retiring 'Happy Birthday Everyone' Hostess set.

This is the second design using the vine stamp. This is super easy, adding some flowers from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack (so sad that it is retiring). I've added some of the Melon Mambo thick Baker's Twine from the new catalogue and popped up the panel on the Melon Mambo base. The lovely greeting is from the 'A Dozen Thoughts' stamp set which is also retiring. It makes it a very flexible card to have in your stash.

At OnStage we were shown a great way to use up DSP by simply a cutting a small piece (10cm x 10cm for cards based on A4 cardstock or 4" x 4 1/4" for Imperial card stock) into 2 pieces on an angle. You can vary the angle and the look by having the wider or narrower piece at the top. You can get 9 cards from a 12 x 12 piece of designer paper when cutting at 10 x 10cm, so it is very cost effective.  I have adapted the idea a little by cutting a piece of Whisper White card stock 10cm x 14.3cm that you can adhere your 2 pieces to.  I've added 5mm borders each side of the greeting and having the base makes it super easy to cut them off at the correct angle. You also get more options for stamping your greeting, rather than directly onto the card base.

Stampin' Up! Quick Make with Birthday Bouquet DSP - Judy May, Just Judy Designs

I've used the large design from the Birthday Bouquet DSP. I love this paper, but I've found it difficult to use, as it is quite busy. I think it looks fabulous used in this layout. The greeting comes from the lovely 'Best Thoughts' Hostess stamp set, also retiring. Any bold greeting would work well, such as those from 'Sassy Salutations' (also retiring, sigh!).
