OnStage Sample -Mint Birthday Blooms

Hi there

Apologies for the drought in blog posts in the last couple of weeks. I was fortunate enough to be selected as a display board stamper for the Stampin' Up! OnStage Local event in Sydney 10 days ago.  I had a very hectic 2 weeks leading up to it preparing my 20 samples and I still seem to be catching up.

I was selected to work with new 2016-18 In Colours, but there was a little hiccup in the shipping from the US and I received the supplies for the 2015-17 In Colours. However, I did receive 2 stamp sets from the new 2016-17 Annual Catalogue to work with, so I will be sharing samples using those in the next few weeks as we get closer to the 1 June commencement of the new catalogue. I think you will really like the new In Colours - they are very on trend and work well with the existing Stampin' Up! colour collections. As always seems to happen after we get an new set of colours, I am already seeing them in homewares, linen and stationery.

Today, I am sharing one of my Mint Macaron samples using the beautiful Birthday Blooms stamp set. I'm so glad this has been carried over to the new catalogue. I've stamped it in Basic Gray Archival ink on Shimmery White and water coloured with aquapainter and ink pads. It has been fussy cut  and popped up on a doily. The colours are Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron with a touch of Rose Red.  The 4" 'Tea Lace' doilies that are retiring will be replaced with very pretty 3.5" 'Delicate White' doilies. This is a more versatile size, as it fits nicely on the card with a landscape orientation.

The lovely sentiment comes from one of the new Hostess stamp sets from the 2016-17 catalogue called 'Gift of Love'. I love the delicate script font which I have heat embossed in white.  I've trimmed it with some of the new 2015-17 In Colour ribbons and a trio of pearls. I've also highlighted the stamens with a white gel pen. Here is a close-up of the new ribbon:

This ribbon is actually Cucumber Crush, but it goes very nicely with Mint Macaron. It is 1.7cm wide (11/16") with a very fine grosgrain stripe alternating with white. It comes in all 5 of the 2015-17 In Colours.

CASE-ing the Catty - Botanicals

CTC_Blog_Banner_edited

Hi there

The CTC Crew are taking their inspiration from the Botanicals section of the Occasions Catalogue this week. I have 2 very different cards to share with you today.

You may have come from Elizabeth's Blog, but if you are visiting me, you can start your journey here and continue by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the post.

I've taken my inspiration from these Stampin' Up! samples of the 'In the Meadow' stamp set on page 28 of the Occasions catty. Up to now I have only used the tree image as silhouette, so it was a good opportunity to ink up the rest of the images.

I've created an outdoor scene that is perfect for a masculine card. I started by stamping the images in Basic Black Archival ink on water colour paper and then got to work with my ink pads and aqua painter. Make sure you let the archival ink dry thoroughly before you start water colouring or give your piece a blast with the heat gun to be sure. I had a few practice runs on scrap paper to work out the position of each image before stamping onto the water colour paper. I have taken the colour cues from the image with a mat of Pumpkin Pie on the Marina Mist base card. I've added the Cherry Cobbler accent down the 'spine' of the card and to mat the birthday greeting.

I have kept the inside simple, stamping the tree as a silhouette this time. I had to resort to my retired DSP Pattern stacks to get the Marina Mist striped border. I've used Very Vanilla for the writing panel as it matched the water colour paper and the tone on tone stripes work so well with either white or vanilla.

Now for my second card, which uses the fabulous Botanical Builder framelit dies. This is such a great bundle of products and definitely a 'keeper' as it is so versatile to use with or without the coordinating stamp set.  Strictly speaking my card isn't inspired by a particular sample, but I couldn't go past this section of the catalogue without showing the versatility of these products.  I have had this card in my head for a while so it was the opportunity to make it a reality and show how fabulous these dies look in a white-on-white project.

To start, I covered the front of my thick Whisper White base card with the lovely silver foil paper. The second layer of thick Whisper White has been die cut with an oval (2nd oval from the centre of the Ovals Collection) and then embossed with the lovely 'Softly Falling' TIEF. I have added a layer of the foam tape that I use for shaker cards around the oval and around the edges of the embossed piece before placing it over the silver foil mat. The 'Wedding Wishes' greeting from the Rose Wonder stamp set was heat embossed in silver and then die cut with the smallest oval and then placed into the recessed oval space, creating an automatic silver foil border. The rest was a matter of decorating with the blooms from the Botanical Builder framelits set cut from thick Whisper White so they are robust. I've added lots of bling to accent the flowers and the little banner. It was a lovely sunny Autumn afternoon here in Melbourne, so it was difficult to photograph the card with the reflection off all the bling! Unfortunately, it really doesn't do it justice!

ETA: I've taken another photo of the card from above and that shows the detail better without so much reflection.

This photo shows the recessed oval and if you look closely you can see the foam tape underneath. It makes the really firm, so it won't sink.

Finally, for the inside I have a mat of silver foil (decadent, I know!) and I upped the bling with a little border of silver glimmer at the bottom.  Some more blooms finish it off.
