Retro Sketch #21

Hi there

It has been a busy time catching up since being away.  Unfortunately, both Artie and Crafty had a trip to the vet in the days after we got back  with a dose of cat flu, despite being vaccinated.  We have had bad luck over the years putting our cats in the 'pet resort' while we are away.  They are both on the mend now, thankfully. We were also up before the sparrows (4am!!) on Sunday morning for a trip to the airport to meet the 16 year old German Rotary Exchange student that we will be hosting from November.  As I've only ever been the parent of 4 legged furry things, I'm sure it will be an adventure that (hopefully) I (and he) will survive!

The card I have for you today is based on last week's Retro Sketch #21.  I didn't make the cut off, but never mind. Here is the sketch:

I have used the lovely floral paper from the soon to be retired 'Domestic Goddess' DSP as the focus with Crumb Cake to tone it down a bit (not sure I succeeded there!).   Here it is:

Back from the Snow

Hi there

I have been away for the last week at the Perisher ski fields in New South Wales.  We met our Godson and his family in Jindabyne and the 5 males spent the week skiing.  For the most part, the weather was fabulous for them.  I don't ski any more due to my arthritis and I was never particularly good at it when I could.  However, it was lovely to relax in front of an open fire every night and chat and look at the photos and videos they had taken during the day.  On the last day I went up the Kosciuszko Express chair lift at Thredbo as a foot passenger to have lunch at the Eagles Nest restaurant. It was a beautiful blue sky day, but it was very, very chilly on the chair lift! This is a photo of me rugged up in the snow outside the restaurant. At the top right you can see a snow bunny that someone made in the snow.

I did take a few stamps to colour and some punches to make a few flowers.  I had already cut the main elements to make this card using the Mojo Monday #249 sketch, so I took them with me and then coloured the image and put it together.  I really like the simplicity of this sketch:

This was definitely a 'limited supplies' challenge as well, as I had to make do with the few bits I had with me, so it is very simple.

Mojo Monday #248

Hi there

We had our first fine weekend in a month here in Melbourne.  It was so wonderful to see some blue sky after lots of cold, grey, wet weather.  I spent a lot of time in the garden pruning my roses and sweeping up leaves.  Yes, while most every other deciduous tree in the neighbourhood has been bare for ages, ours is still dropping its leaves.  I swear that the number of leaves doubles every year! Needless to say that today it looks like I barely did anything.

The card I have for you today is based on this weeks Mojo Monday #248 sketch. I loved the sketch as soon as I saw it but unfortunately I missed the deadline for submission. Here it is:

I have gone for one of my favourite colour combos - various shades of pink, brown and kraft.  The centre panel is the lovely branch of Cherry Blossom from the retired 'Easter Blossoms' stamp set, coloured with markers.  I got out some of my old (non SU) punches to come up with some matching cherry blossom flowers.

Freshly Made #41

Hi there

It has been a while since I have done a sketch challenge, so I thought I would get back in the saddle with this week's Freshly Made #41 .  I needed to replenish my stash of small thank you cards and this is a great sketch to create some fresh CAS cards.  Four inches (10cm) square is a good size as you can get 4 cards from a 12" x 12" sheet of card stock. Here is the sketch:

Freshly_Made_41I have broken open my 'Summer Smooches' DSP which was a gift from Stampin' Up! at Convention.  The colours are bold and bright and a real contrast to the grey, wet and cold weather we are having here in Melbourne. We had the opportunity to use the new butterfly punch for our 'make & takes' at Convention so I took the opportunity to cut some extra butterflies out of the scraps of paper and card stock. We will see the butterfly punch in our new Catalogue commencing on 1 September 2012 - only 8 weeks from today!
