Have you tried the new Stampin' Up! 'Blendabilities' alcohol markers yet? If you like colouring (which I find very therapeutic), you will enjoy the lovely shading and blending of colours that you can achieve with these markers. All 13 sets of markers listed in the Annual Catalogue are now available for purchase.
One of the the best things, in my opinion, about the Blendabilities is that you get 3 shades of the colour (light, medium, dark) in each pack. This makes the process of getting started must easier. Just choose your favourite Stampin' Up! colours from the range and you are good to go.
You can use the Stampin' Up! Whisper White card stock as the base (or other Stampin' Up! card stocks for that matter), but you need to stamp your image in Memento ink to ensure don't get any 'bleed' from the markers. You will also stain the tips of the markers if you use Staz On ink. The other tip I have for you, is to make sure your stamped image is fully dry before starting to colour. Give it a quick blast with the heat gun if you want to colour your stamped image immediately.
You will find lots of tutorials on the Internet giving advice on how to colour with Blendabilities. There has been much discussion about the pros and cons of going light to dark or dark to light with your colours. Both options seem to produce good results, so I think it is really a matter of preference. I prefer to start light and then add extra colour gradually, until I'm happy with the result. Even the 'Subltes' Blendabilities are very bold colours, so I feel that starting with the lightest colour will give you more control over the final result. If you are starting out, choose a medium sized line image and stamp it a few times on a sheet of Whisper White and try out both options to find which works best for you.
I have finally managed to get one of my coloured 'Blended Bloom' images onto a card. I have used the new 'I Love Lace' background stamp, which is so detailed, to contrast with the bold flower. The rest of the design is very simple, with some Basic Pearls coloured with the lightest Calypso Coral Blendabilities to finish it off. Being able to colour your rhinestones and pearls to match your project is an added bonus of the Blendabilities!
